Canadian Tire (and their sub-retailers like Sport Chek) are favourites among many Canadians.
Their rewards program is also popular. Triangle Rewards are both easy to earn and use on purchases.

Introducing Triangle Select
Triangle Rewards is joining PC Optimum in adding a paid subscription to their rewards program.
If you haven’t heard of it yet, don’t be alarmed – I (surprisingly) haven’t gotten an email from Canadian Tire yet informing me this is available.
What is it? For an annual fee of $89 (plus applicable taxes), you can supercharge the rewards you earn at these Canadian Tire Money stores.

For those of you wondering if it’s a way to save on gas at Canadian Gas+ stations, sorry, there are no bonuses for you. You also can’t use your Canadian Tire Money to pay for your subscription.
But what bonuses are there? Here’s the summary. All these bonuses stack on top of each other. For regular rewards members, you’ll still earn your usual 0.4% back on purchases. For Triangle Mastercard holders, all these bonuses are in addition to your usual 4% back on purchases (10x the rewards).
There’s a common theme to all of them – purchases have to be made in store. Online purchases or ordering online then picking up in-store won’t count towards Triangle Select bonuses (this is further explained in the next section).
And also remember – all these rewards are earned on the pre-tax amount, and not everything is eligible to earn rewards (things like gift cards, lotto tickets, fishing licenses, and tire disposal fees).
Earn 10x the rewards when shopping in store
Shop in store, and right away, you’ll earn 10x the Canadian Tire Money on your purchases.
It has to be in-store shopping – online purchases won’t count, and neither does ordering online then picking up in person. In short, it has to be paid for at a physical store. Right off the bat, that’s a substantial increase in your rewards.
Earn 20x the rewards on select brands
When you’re purchasing certain brands, you’ll earn 20x the rewards on your purchase.
Here are the brands:

It’s largely either brands owned by Canadian Tire (like Mastercraft) or brands that can only be purchased at Canadian Tire, like Simoniz.
There’s an obvious play here by Canadian Tire, in trying to get you to purchase their own products over someone else’s.
But if they have something you want, that’s even more rewards back to you.
20x the annual in-store top-up
Finally, at the end of your membership year, Triangle Rewards will look back at all of your in-store purchases in the last year.
On your largest purchase, Triangle Rewards will give you a 20x rewards bonus. This alone can pay for a significant chunk (if not all) of your membership fee.

Online shopping perks
So, there are no bonus rewards when shopping online. But, there are some perks to save money in this department.

With Canadian Tire, they don’t offer free shipping to your home. But with Select, you can get a rebate on 5 orders shipped, with a cap of $12 back in Canadian Tire Money.
I initially thought that the Sport Chek/Mark’s free shipping wasn’t much of a perk, but it turns out with Sport Chek, you only get free shipping on an order of more than $99.
Mark’s doesn’t offer free shipping at all, so now you can at least save $20 in this department.
An example of how much bonus Canadian Tire Money you can earn with Triangle Select
So exactly how much could you earn if you were a select member?
Canadian Tire has some examples, as both a regular member and for those who have a Triangle Mastercard. This example does include the weekly offer of getting $10 in CT Money after spending $80.
The item is a $150 Paderno pan, which is a Canadian Tire product. Here’s what a regular member would earn.

It’s an extra $18 in rewards you’ve earned.
As for Triangle Mastercard holders:

It’s the same difference of $18, though you earn more just by having a Triangle Mastercard.
And of course, if this was your biggest purchase of the year, that’s another $12 you could earn.
In short, this could give you up to $30 in Canadian Tire Money, taking a big bite out of the plan’s monthly fee.
A limited time signup bonus for Triangle Select
If you’re interested in getting Triangle Select, there’s a limited time welcome bonus. When it ends, we’re not sure, it’s not stated on their website.
First, you can pick from one of these $50 gift cards.

You can also get a Crave subscription for 6 months, which is worth $120 (plus taxes).
On these 2 things alone, you’re getting $170 in value for signing up and seeing if Triangle Select is for you.
How to sign up for Triangle Select
Interested and want to sign up? Here’s how to do it. First, if you don’t have one, you’ll need to sign up for a regular Triangle Rewards account here.
Head to the Triangle Select site, and click on “Join Triangle Select” (there are several buttons on the page).
You’ll then need to sign in to your Triangle account (you may have to click on “Join Triangle Select” again after logging in).
You can then choose your welcome gift. Finally, review the summary, enter in your credit card info (only required if you don’t have any credit cards stored in your account) and complete your registration.
And with that, you’re on your way to earning more Canadian Tire Money.
How to cancel your Triangle Select membership
Your membership is set to auto renew unless you live in Alberta or Quebec.
If you want to cancel it, in your online dashboard, click on account settings, and scroll to the Triangle Select section.
You’ll be able to remove automatic renewal if you choose.

Canadian Tire has made it easy for you to move on if you don’t want to keep it.
Will you get Triangle Select?
Canadian Tire certainly has created an intriguing rewards subscription, especially if you purchase Canadian Tire products.
We’re also now wondering who else enters the rewards subscription industry, like Triangle Rewards and PC Optimum have with their PC Insiders program.
