Your rewards
How you earn rewards
Each card earns rewards differently. Part of choosing your card is deciding what type of rewards you want to get. With Triangle World Elite Mastercard, here's how you earn rewards:
- 4% CT Money at Canadian Tire stores
- 3% CT Money on grocery store purchases
- 1% CT Money on all other purchases
- Collect 5 cents CT Money per liter on reg/mid grade fuel, or 7 cents on premium fuel at Gas+ and Husky stations

How much your rewards are worth
The dollar value of your rewards depends on the specific rewards program ‒ and what you choose to redeem your points for. For Triangle World Elite Mastercard in particular, if you spend $2,000 per month, here's our estimated annual rewards earned depending on which reward you choose:
| Triangle Rewards stores | $355 |
Calculating your annual rewards
$24,000 annual spending x 1.48% return on spending = $355 annual rewards
$355 annual rewards − $0.00 annual fee = $355 net annual rewards

Our review
Canadian Tire's premium card offering, the Triangle World Elite Mastercard, offers great rewards, perks, and no annual fee.
It's a Canadian Tire Triangle card, so you'll be earning Canadian Tire Money on all purchases you make on the card.
What will you earn? Here's the breakdown:
- 4% back at Canadian Tire stores, including Mark's Work Wearhouse, SportChek, and Atmosphere,
- 3% back at grocery stores (up to $12,000 spent per year),
- 5 - 7 cents per litre of fuel at Canadian Gas+ and Husky locations (depending on the grade of fuel), and
- 1% back on all other purchases.
These are some great earn rates, but there's a couple of things to address.
The real earn rates
First, how much you earn at Canadian Tire stores. 4% back sounds great, but there are 2 things to consider:
- it's earned on the pre-tax amount, and
- includes what base Triangle Rewards members earn.
What this means is it's an inflated number compared to what other credit cards will earn.
The actual value is 3.19%, if you assume an average sales tax rate of 13% in Canada. It's still great, but not what's advertised.
As for the grocery store earn rate, 3% is great for a no fee card. But, it's capped at $12,000 per year (or $1,000 per month).
Plus the bonus earn rate doesn't work at Walmart Supercentres. Though Mastercard considers Walmart Supercentres to be grocery stores, Canadian Tire has specifically excluded them from earning 3%.
Some other perks
This card has a perk that's fairly rare on credit cards – roadside assistance. Just for having the card, you'll have the Canadian Tire Gold roadside assistance plan. You'll get to choose between covering any vehicle you drive or covering a specific vehicle. It's an annual value of $99.95 plus tax.
The card will also provide some limited insurance coverage. You can see the details by clicking on the insurance tab above.
And finally, if you make purchases over $150 at Canadian stores, you can request 12 months no fee and no interest financing on your purchase.
Alternatives to consider
There's a lot to like about the Triangle World Elite Mastercard. But if you want more rewards on everyday purchases, here are a couple of cards to consider in its place (or to pair with).

They froze my acc for no reason after approving me 10k on the WE card. I used the card just a couple times at CT before it happened and it required me visiting a CT store and being on hold with their credit card phone line for over 30mins to fix it. I couldn’t access my acc via online banking nor the app while it was frozen. Sure the earn rate can be great but requiring a customer to physically go in store just to wait on hold with the cc phone line is absolutely ridiculous. Not only that, they sent you a ton of marketing emails.
The review did not mention the fact that you can pay for your property tax bill, utilities bill, natural gas bills, and even some insurance company bills via the Canadian Tire Financial Services website.
Payments via the CTFS website acts like a bank payment, and then CTFS charged the payment to the Triangle Mastercard.
I have racked up quite a lot of CT money paying all my essential bills via the CTFS website.
Creditcard Genius is out to lunch on their rating of this card. As others have stated, most MC World Elite or Visa Infinite cards have a $120+ annual fee. That, coupled with the roadside assistance package (another $115), equates to this card being ahead of each of the other World Elite or Visa Infinite cards by a minimum of $235...before you even begin spending or collecting the Canadian Tire cash-back rewards. So...no they don't have a one-time introductory offer as some have complained...instead, they have a recurring annual offer of no $120 fee and free roadside assistance!
Also, Canadian Tire is famous for offering various promotional multipliers for their rewards, which can build your rewards cash faster. Sure, you have to spend the rewards at their line of stores...but who doesn't need vehicle maintenance or tires...who doesn't need a new coffee maker now and then...who doesn't need light bulbs or household items...who doesn't wear clothes...who doesn't need some form of athletic/recreational goods or items. The credit qualifying score also seems flawed, as CT is much easier to get than the indicated score of 760-900. Sorry, Creditcard Genius...you missed the boat on this one!
Absolutely love my canadian tire elite card. I have 3 cards pc world elite and American express cobalt. I seem to get way better perks from canadian tire, I do use my card quite often for everything and pay it back monthly, thus my rewards rack up quite quickly I probably get more then 150 in rewards every 6 weeks to a 60 days. It's great when you need things for your car or simple items for the house. I highly recommend this card over the other 2 I have that have monthly premiums as well the rewards don't seem to add up as quickly. I get quite a few increases for my credit limit which is nice even though not needed but nice to have in my pocket. I can't stress enough that this card is worth having.
Great card to use, perks galore and dicounted gas! NO BRAINER!!!
