Our review
Are you hoping to consolidate some of your credit card debt?
Do you tend to carry a balance on your credit card?
Do you feel like you are paying too much in interest fees?
If you answered yes to anything of these questions, a low interest rate credit card could be the solution.
Avoiding credit card debt starts by being sure to pay your balance in full every month. However, sometimes credit card debt cannot be avoided. By paying less in interest, you can pay more on the principle and get your balance paid off faster.
And if this is you, the CIBC Select Visa has a great balance transfer offer to consider, on top of low interest rates.
CIBC Select Visa balance transfer offer
Right now with the CIBC Select Visa you can transfer your credit card balance and get 0% interest for up to 10 months, with only a 1% transfer fee (BT fee does not apply for Quebec residents).
In fact, it's one of the top balance transfer offers in Canada right now.
Taking advantage of this offer can help give you some significant relief from the crushing interest rates you are paying.
Low interest rates
After your balance transfer offer is over, you’ll still be getting a low interest rate of 13.99% on purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers – giving you the potential to save hundreds.
It's not the lowest interest rates you can get with a credit card, but are far better than the standard 20%+ interest rates most credit cards charge.
CIBC Select Visa annual fee
While there is a $29 annual fee, it is currently being rebated for the first 2 years you have the card. And if this card can help you save and get on top of your debt, the annual fee is probably worth it in the end.
Other benefits included
There are a couple of other benefits included with the card. It includes up to $100,000 in Common Carrier Insurance, and you’re able to add up to 3 secondary cards for free.
There's also optional insurance you can add if you need – CIBC emergency travel medical and payment protector insurance coverages.

The max credit limit anyone can get for this card is $5,000 and they limit your balance transfer to 50% of your credit limit. They don't tell you any of this in the application process but you must request your balance transfer during the application process to get the promo... but if you request a higher balance transfer than 50% of the credit limit they grant you, you lose the promo. What a waste of time and you take a hit on your credit for nothing!
Don't bother applying for CIBC Select Visa card. As the prior reviewer noted they limit your balance transfer to 50% of assigned credit limit, which in turn is ridiculously low! For example, with this card I got only 2500 credit limit, while another popular on this site card gave me 10,000! Make yourself a favor and stay away from this CIBC nonsense.
Keep away from CIBC. !
The 0% balance transfer offer is complete joke. The offer is designed to foll applicant. Misleading advertising.
Application process requires the applicant to go to the cibc branch for identification process.
Bad customer service. The worst bank experience i have ever had.
The purchase interest will kill you if the card is not paid off monthly
It sucks!!! Complete joke!
