Shell's move away from Air Miles is now official in Alberta. As of March 3, 2026, Shell has joined the Scene+ loyalty network in the province, bringing Scotiabank and Tangerine into the mix with enhanced fuel savings and rewards.
This follows the earlier announcement that Shell is leaving Air Miles as BMO prepares to transition the program into Blue Rewards. Alberta is the first province to see the new setup in action, with a national rollout scheduled for May 26, 2026.

Get up to 10 cents per litre in total value at Shell
This new partnership allows Albertan Shell customers to unlock up to 10¢ per litre in total value when paying at Shell with eligible linked Scotiabank or Tangerine cards through Shell Go+. We expect to see the same benefits roll out for other Canadians in May.

Here’s how it works for Scotiabank customers:
- Instant savings of 3 cents per litre on all grades of fuel when paying with an eligible linked Scotiabank debit or credit card
When using a Scene+ credit card, Scotiabank customers unlock:
- An additional 4 cents per litre instant savings on Shell V-Power
- Up to 3 cents per litre equivalent in redeemable Scene+ point value on Shell V-Power
The structure is slightly different for Tangerine clients:
- 3 cents per litre instant savings on all grades when paying with any linked Tangerine credit card
- Up to 2 cents per litre equivalent in redeemable Scene+ point value on Shell V-Power when a Scene+ membership is linked to your Shell Go+ account
Tangerine advertises that you'll also earn up to 3 cents per litre when fuel is selected as one of your 2% earn categories. But this is simply your bonus cash back rate on fuel – with a gas price of $1.50/L, that’s roughly 2%.
What do we mean by "one your 2% earn categories"? Instead of preset categories with higher earn rates, Tangerine credit cards have customizable categories. You choose which categories earn more cash back.
Soon, Tangerine customers will also have a new way to earn more Scene+ points, with a new Tangerine Scene+ credit card expected to launch in April 2026.
Whether you're a Scotiabank or Tangerine customer, there is no minimum spend required to unlock the instant fuel savings.
How Shell Go+ and Scene+ work together
To access the full value, customers must link an eligible Scotiabank or Tangerine card to a Shell Go+ account and connect their Scene+ membership.
When you pay through the Shell Go+ app, savings are applied automatically, and you can earn additional bonus points.
Beyond the fuel discounts, Scene+ members can:
- Earn 1 Scene+ point per litre on all grades of fuel
- Earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar spent on car washes and eligible convenience purchases
- Redeem 1,000 Scene+ points on regular fuel for $10 savings and double bonus points on Shell V-Power.
Bonuses with the Shell Go+ app
If you connect your Scene+ card in the Shell Go+ app, you can earn even more bonus points.
- 10% more bonus Scene+ points on Shell Regular, Plus, and Diesel fuels
- Double Scene+ points on Shell V-Power fuel
- 10% more bonus Scene+ points on car washes and convenience store purchases.
It's an easy way to boost what you're earning.
The next step for Shell
This Alberta launch is the next step in Shell's departure from Air Miles. With this shift, Shell joins Sobeys, which previously transitioned from Air Miles to Scene+ in a similar phased regional rollout before expanding nationally.
The move consolidates Scene+ as one of Canada's favourite loyalty networks, spanning groceries, entertainment, travel, dining, and now fuel.
What this means for Canadian drivers
This update makes it clear that fuel rewards are becoming more integrated with bank loyalty programs. By linking Shell Go+, Scene+, and eligible Scotiabank or Tangerine cards, Canadian drivers can now stack instant discounts, loyalty points, and cash back in a way that was not possible through the Air Miles program.
For anyone already using a Scotiabank or Tangerine card, this change creates a more seamless path to savings at the pump. And for rewards-focused drivers, it signals a broader shift in how fuel loyalty programs are structured in Canada.
Credit cards to use at Shell stations
Tangerine credit cards
Tangerine credit cards offer the sweetest deal, with 3 cents in instant savings and 2% in cash back on all grades of fuel (if you have gas selected as a bonus category).
Scotiabank Scene+ credit cards
If you fuel up with Shell V-Power, consider a Scotiabank Scene+ card to save 7 cents per litre and get a value of up to 3 cents per later back in Scene+ points.

More Scotiabank credit cards
These cards won't get you bonus Scene+ points, but you can still save 3 cents per litre on gas.
If you fuel up with Shell V-Power, consider a Scotiabank Scene+ card to save 7 cents per litre and get a value of up to 3 cents per later back in Scene+ points.
