If you're a TD cardholder, there's a good chance you're earning TD rewards for your credit card purchases. To get the most value when you redeem your points, head to the Expedia For TD website, where you can book hotels, vacation packages, rental cars, flights, and experiences.

Keep in mind that Expedia For TD is a slightly different platform from Expedia.ca. We'll give you a quick overview of the best credit cards that earn TD Rewards points before explaining exactly how you use them for travel.

Key Takeaways

  • The Expedia For TD website is TD's portal for booking travel rewards, which also happens to be the best way to redeem TD Rewards points.
  • Expedia For TD is only for rewards bookings, unlike Expedia.ca, the primary travel website.
  • Expedia For TD price matches, but only for hotels and flight-hotel packages.

What is Expedia For TD?

If you participate in TD's Rewards program, you can redeem points for travel by booking with the Expedia For TD travel booking portal.

In the past, you had to register for an Expedia For TD account, but TD has done away with that step. Now, you can simply access the portal to see travel opportunities.

Through Expedia For TD, you can make purchases with your TD Rewards points, your TD credit card, or a combination of the two.

Expedia For TD vs. Expedia.ca

Expedia For TD is TD's portal for the main Expedia.ca website. While anyone can book travel through Expedia.ca, TD Rewards users can save money and earn bonus points with the Expedia For TD platform.

Both platforms work similarly, letting you book flights and hotels – you can even pay for your reservations using TD Rewards credit cards (and earn boosted rates). However, only Expedia For TD allows you to book travel using your rewards points.

There are a few reasons you'll want to use Expedia For TD instead of the "regular" Expedia:

  • You'll get the same value no matter what you redeem your points for – 0.5 cents each.
  • All TD Rewards credit cards offer bonus points for making purchases via Expedia For TD.
  • When you purchase or redeem points for flights, you can still collect Aeroplan points, WestJet Dollars, VIPorter points, or any other airline miles.
Take note: You can use your points to book travel with any provider, but this will reduce their value. On the first $1,200 of a single transaction, each point is only worth 0.4 cents – a 20% reduction in value. Beyond that, your points will be worth 0.5 cents each, which is the same as Expedia For TD.

Which credit cards use Expedia for TD?

The only way to earn TD Rewards points is by using select TD credit cards.

There are 3 TD personal credit cards that will earn you points to redeem through Expedia For TD, including a no-annual-fee card and a premium Visa Infinite.

If you don't travel enough to justify paying a credit card's annual fee, the TD Rewards Visa Card is a solid option. Although you won't get travel insurance, the card does include $1,000 of mobile device coverage, and you'll still earn up to 4 points per $1 spent on travel through Expedia For TD when you book trips.

Pros:

  • No annual fee
  • Ability to earn a basic welcome bonus
  • No income requirements

Cons:

  • Points only worth 0.5 cents each

Is Expedia For TD worth it?

If you hold a credit card that earns TD Rewards, Expedia For TD is worth it. Your points give the most value (0.5 cents per point) when redeemed through Expedia For TD.

This means they're actually worth twice as much as converting them to other options like gift cards, statement credits, or merchandise. If you're more of a visual person, take a look at how your redemption options compare:

Comparing Rewards Redemptions Of The TD Rewards Program

Redemption OptionValue of 1 Point (Cents)Value of 50,000 Points

To maximize your TD Rewards points, you should always redeem them on Expedia For TD.

What users think

Nerding out on point value is well and good, but it really helps to hear what actual users think about the program, so we turned to Reddit.

When asked about using a TD rewards card to book, here's what one person said about booking an Air Canada flight:

Reddit User Gives Thoughts On Expedia For TD

When trying to decide if Expedia For TD is worth it, we looked to RedFlagDeals for opinions. Our takeaway is that it's always important to research all your booking options before going with Expedia for TD:

Added bonus: Expedia for TD also provides you with a dedicated customer service line.

How to book travel

To make a reservation, just log in to your TD account on the Expedia For TD site.

Once in, you can search flights, stays, car rentals, vacation rentals, and packages. If you're unsure what kind of travel to book, Expedia For TD gives search options like "Family-Friendly Trips," "Top Vacation Deals," "Trip Ideas," and more.

Expedia For TD offers

When you select a trip, you'll see the cash and reward rates for your selection (you'll also see how many points you'll earn by booking the trip with your TD Rewards card instead of reward points).

Expedia For TD points

When you're ready to check out, select "pay with rewards" or "save your rewards for later." Note that the point redemption rate is in 200-point increments, where every 200 points will save you $1 on your booking (0.5 cents per point).

Expedia For TD checkout

If you don't have enough points to cover the entire cost, you can use your TD Rewards credit card to pay for the rest (and you'll earn points on the amount you charge).

Does Expedia For TD price match?

Yes, Expedia for TD price matches travel rewards — but the price match policy only applies to hotels and flight-hotel packages. You can even use prices you find on multiple websites and still get a refund.

That said, there are a few restrictions. The following cases are invalid for price matching:

  • Price matches on travel packages booked in the last 24 hours
  • Price matches on hotels where your check-in time is less than 48 hours away
  • The travel dates between what you're offered by Expedia For TD and the competitor are not the same
  • The hotel's room type, room, and cancellation policy don't match
  • Your flight's cabin class, booking code, or cancellation policy do not match
  • The details of each part of the fully paid flight & hotel package are not the same

If you book anything that isn't a hotel or flight-hotel package, there is no guarantee that Expedia For TD will honour the price match policy.

Expedia for TD does NOT provide a working toll-free contact number for when you travel abroad. You cannot call their 1-877-222-6492 number from the UK (for instance). So if you have an issue, you must call their toll number 1-949-333-4946 and pay. Also, to log into your Expedia for TD account, the 2FA only provides the option to send a text or call to the number they have on file. Without it, you can't log into your account. If you travel abroad and get a local sim card, you CANNOT log into your Expedia for TD account unless you put in your Canada sim card and incur roaming charges to get the 2FA text. TD's EasyWeb allows you to use the TD Authenticator app for 2FA, but it doesn't work for Expedia for TD. I regret booking my trip through this limited Expedia for TD program. I see no reason to keep my credit card if I have to use this useless program every time.

I have always used expedia td for my travel bookings , flights hotels rentals but since the new change where now we have to use our bank card information the session logs out every 10 minutes and the whole progress is lost. Not to mention that you loose the deals, the flights . I have called expedia td customer support so many times to help me but they have been of no use. So now basically there is no flexibility left, what you see on the platform in first 2 minutes , if you like it great otherwise you are out of luck. When we were using the older way expedia will even give a message if there was inactivity or something. Now it does not matter you are actively scrolling , planning and boom in 10 minutes the screen will have a message sign in to see savings. What joke! I am seriously considering leaving td for this reason. The whole reason I have td infinite travel is to save on travels .

Hello,

Expedia doesn’t allow you to pool or share points with other members after they’re earned. You can earn points on behalf of multiple travelers at the time of booking, but you will only be able to redeem points from oe account when booking through their site.

TD does allow you to combine points, but this would only be available if both cards have the same cardholder name.

I booked a flight via expediaforTD, paying 100% with td rewards. I paid for the flight with an RBC credit card. I have not received the credit on my visa and it's been 4 weeks but the TD points have been deducted. I just realized that maybe I had to pay with my TD visa card, even if paying 100% with TD points redemption? Is that the case?

TD For Expedia only matches if the competing quote is in CAD, and this is a huge caveat. When you find a US Hotel's own website has a better rate, and show TD for Expedia the quote in USD, they will respond " The hotel price guarantee benefit only applies when the alternative quote is identical to your booking. Because there's a difference in the currency. I'm unable to process your request. I'm confident that Expedia for TD offers you the best value for this trip." Keep in mind: A US Hotel's own website will only offer quotes in USD. Expedia for TD will only offer purchases in CAD. Therefore, in practice, you cannot match against hotels outside Canada quoting in their local currency. In my case, TD for Expedia even determined–––using Expedia's choice of currency exchange rate––that indeed the price I found was US$150 lower. Still, they said their mathing policy doesn't apply. The bullet points in the post above should be fact checked for this point.
