Scene+ is getting a new partner – Tangerine. Maybe they're not technically new as they are owned by Scotiabank, but nevertheless. In an email to Scene+ members, it was announced that a Tangerine Scene+ credit card will be available on April 20, 2026.
No details are provided, but that won't stop us from taking a stab at what it may offer.
There are also some changes coming to how you earn Scene+ points at Cineplex, starting on May 13, 2026.

A new Tangerine Scene+ credit card
It's not every day you get a new credit card (even though we just found out about one yesterday).
That's all we know – Tangerine is launching a Scene+ credit card on April 20, 2026.
So we'll take the liberty of making a guess about what it will offer. Feel free to make your own guesses in the comments section below.
Our assumption? Something that looks a lot like the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card, with some obvious tweaks, and not just that it will earn Scene+ points instead of cash back.
It will be a Mastercard with no annual fee – those are givens.
First, a dedicated earn rate for Sobeys and Safeway stores. All other Scotia Scene+ cards offer one (except for the Scotiabank American Express Card), we feel like that makes its way here.
You'll also get your choice of categories to earn bonus Scene+ rewards. You get a choice of 2. The tricky part is whether you can unlock a 3rd. Our guess is no, as you can't deposit your points into a savings account. You essentially get that 3rd one anyway with the Sobeys rate.
So our guess is as follows:
- 2 points per $1 spent at Sobeys and Safeway stores
- 2 points per $1 spent on 2 categories of your choice
- 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases (could be 1 point per $2, though).
As for those categories? Here are the current choices:

Groceries are an interesting choice. You get a major chain for free, but if you want to earn them at Loblaws or Walmart, you'll need to choose groceries to get your bonus rate.
The base Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card doesn't offer much else beyond a pair of basic insurance coverages and a balance transfer offer, which may or may not be available here.
Changes to earning Scene+ points at Cineplex
Starting on May 13, 2026, how you earn points at Cineplex is changing. And for the most part, not for the better.
Currently, you earn 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent on everything.
After May 13, it boils down to this – you'll be earning 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent on everything. The only exception is that for premium movie tickets (i.e., 3D, UltraAVX, dBox, IMAX), you'll start earning 6 Scene+ points per $1 spent.
The full details are available here.
