ScotiaGold Passport Visa Casa partnership brings the card back in a new form
The ScotiaGold Passport Visa is back with a fresh set of perks. After being largely phased out for new applicants in recent years, the card is now available as part of a focused collaboration between Scotiabank and Casa.
This newly enhanced card is designed to help Canadians pay rent or condo fees with a credit card through Casa. The goal is to help Canadians earn rewards on one of the largest monthly expenses for many households.
How to pay rent with a credit card through Casa
The Casa platform is designed to make it easy to pay rent or condo fees with a credit card, even if your landlord or property manager doesn't normally accept them. After you add your property details and choose your payment method, Casa sends a secure payment to your housing provider on your due date.
When you use the ScotiaGold Passport Visa to make this payment, Casa will waive the typical transaction fee, and help you earn Scene+ points on money you'd already be spending every month.
How to earn rewards on rent and condo fees
Earning rewards on rent or condo fees is tied to your everyday spending. Cardholders earn 1 Scene+ point for every dollar spent on regular purchases. Once you spend at least $350 on everyday purchases in a month, you also start earning one Scene+ point for every dollar spent on eligible rent or condo fee payments made through Casa that month.
Key details of the ScotiaGold Passport Visa
The ScotiaGold Passport Visa carries a $110 annual fee, with supplementary cards available for $30 per year. The minimum credit limit is $5,000, and the purchase interest rate is 19.99%, with a 22.99% cash advance interest rate.
How ScotiaGold compares to other options from Scotiabank
While the ScotiaGold Passport Visa is a new option for renters and condo owners, Canadians focused on travel perks should consider the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Card as a premium alternative.
It has a 150 annual fee, offers no foreign exchange fees, up to three Scene+ points per dollar spent in select categories, 6 annual airport lounge passes, and (as of this article's publish date) currently includes a $150 GeniusCash offer plus bonus Scene+ points in the first year.

Casa vs. Chexy
While this Casa and Scotiabank partnership is new, Chexy is a similar bill payment service that's been around for a while.
While Chexy doesn't have a credit card partnership like Casa's with the ScotiaGold Passport Visa, it currently offers bonus Aeroplan points to eligible users.
Both companies have similar fees. Here is a breakdown of the typical, non-partner fees charged by these two companies:
| Fees | Casa | Chexy |
|---|---|---|
| Visa cards | 1.75% | 1.75% |
| Mastercards | 1.75% | N/A |
| American Express cards | N/A | 1.75% |
| International cards | N/A | 2.5% |
| Visa and Mastercard Debit Cards | 1% | None |
