How much your rewards are worth
The dollar value of your rewards depends on the specific rewards program ‒ and what you choose to redeem your points for. For Scotiabank Scene+ Visa Card in particular, if you spend $2,000 per month, here's our estimated annual rewards earned depending on which reward you choose:
| Cineplex theatres | $252 | |
| Recipe Unlimtied Restaurants | $252 | |
| Any travel from Expedia Scene+ | $252 | |
| Sobeys stores | $252 | |
| Any travel (Scene+ credit and debit cardholders only) | $252 | |
| Statement credits | $202 | |
| Apple & Best Buy Merchandise | $194 | |
| Gift Cards | $186 |
Calculating your annual rewards
$24,000 annual spending x 1.05% return on spending = $252 annual rewards

Top cards from Scotiabank

Our review
In the world of Netflix and movie streaming, it can be hard to justify the amount of money it costs to go out to the local movie theatre. However, sometimes, you just can’t beat the real thing. Comfy seats, the big screen, and who can forget that yummy popcorn!
Just because the cost of movies seems to keep rising, that doesn’t mean you need to give up one of your favourite date night ideas, and the Scotiabank Scene Visa aims to bring you back to watch the silver screen.
The Scene Visa from Scotiabank starts by giving you up to 5,000 Scene points – those are worth up to 50 in movie tickets, free groceries, or travel!
With this card, you will get 1 point for every $1 you spend. As if that wasn’t enough, you will get double that when you use your card at Sobeys, Safeway, and Cineplex. You can get free additional cards for your family members and just watch the free movies and popcorn roll in.
The Scotiabank Scene Visa will also give you up to 20% off at AVIS Rent A Car locations worldwide.
This card does not include any type of insurance, so that is definitely something to keep in mind, but for a rewards credit card with no annual fee, this one is pretty decent! Especially if going to the movies is one of your favourite “night out” treats.

The Card is good but completely useless because Scotia bank and staff have no clue of their product or know what they are selling. I lost time to go to the bank and make this card. I requested a 15K limit as I was planning to redo our deck. They asked for an employment letter which I provided, I got an email I was approved. When I got the card it was only 7K limit. I called them and complained, they told me they could not do anything? It seems to be their song! I told them I had an email of the approval, then they transferred me to a credit rep, who took the reference number off me from the email and put up my limit on the card. When I asked why it was not done, I was told that no one in credit department has input the increase?? I finally went on 7 May and did the purchase just shy of 11K. The next day to my luck some of the items went on sale and I received a refund. The banking app would not allow me to do the 24 months equal payment plan, this was the only reason I got this card as it is promoted highly. I called and the person over the phone told me the purchase were not eligible! This is absolutely incorrect. I decided to go in person to the Scotia bank branch. The teller with management spent 30 minutes with me but were not successful in choosing the payment plan. They told me because a refund had just come in that day the system will require a few more days before I could enroll in the select payment plan. After a few days when I was not successful, I called in and made a complaint. The customer service after having me on hold told me the amount had dropped because of the refund and I had to re spend that same amount or more than my original balance for the system to allow me to choose a payment plan. I needed other items and as an idiot made the balance more than the initial balance. Guess what! The bank app still did not allow me to choose a payment plan! I called in and the person I got was very confident. He played the disclosure message for me to consent and tried to put my balance on a payment plan and failed! I asked him to talk with the manager. A case was opened and today I got a call from one of Scotia's main branch or head branch. The manager acknowledged and agreed there was an error on the bank app in my case but could not offer me a solution, other than be apologetic in my case. Unfortunately this does not correct the fact that I am owing shy of $11K on the first statement requiring to be paid or pay 21% interest. He listened and told me he would take notes for his higher ups. I told him this is the best way to lose customers. I called my TD visa and they offered me 12 months no interest payment plan. They have taken on the debt! Bye Bye Scotia! I have lost time and become entrapped in their mess that they cannot correct. I am fortunate I had TD visa to help me out. I'm thinking of all the others who are in my similar situation and do not have anyone to bail them. Watch out for this entrapment where you may end up paying 21% interest on 10K adds up fast and you're drowning before you know it. BEWARE!!!
I was on hold for 4 hours and 30 minutes to report a suspicious charge of over $2000 on my card. They were very matter of fact that during Christmas I should expect this.
I had called my Brim Master Card shortly before and received call-backs on the Brim Mastercard within an hour, while I was on hold with Scotiabank.
After many years I canceled my Scotiabank Scene card and will be finding another bank as well because of a variety other issues.
Avoid this program if you can! When it works, it's fine, but those occasions have been few and far between for the past few years. First, if your card even works, you get only half a point for every dollar spent, even using a Scene Visa at Sobeys -- where even the receipt showing the shortfall tells you it should be two points. Second, the Scene program is not very secure – points are frequently drained by organized crime rings and getting them back and getting a new card is a comedy of errors. Which brings up the third point, of how truly awful Scene+ (overseas) support is. Prepare to spend hours on hold only to be "accidentally" disconnected, to be promised emails that will never arrive, and the be given information that is consistently incorrect. In the end, it's not really worth the hassle.
I've had this card since I was a university student. The application process was quite simple and I had a decent limit with no credit. I personally got it because of the Scene points as my family and I enjoy going to the movies and I've definitely gotten my money's worth. No annual fee and the increased opportunities to earn points with the Scene+ changes is also welcome. Never had to call customer service so can't speak for that, but when I've had problems with my bills I've gone to my local branch and they've sorted it out for me.
This card was pretty good at its prime but with the recent changes to Scene+, its easily overshadowed by other Scotiabank offerings. Good starter card.
