Click to Pay in Canada
Click to Pay launched in Canada in 2020 and is now supported by several major issuers, including RBC, Scotiabank, and BMO. It's also available for PC Financial credit cards.
CIBC and Simplii are joining the Click to Pay credit card list on October 21, 2026.
Support still isn't universal, with many institutions like Tangerine, Rogers Bank, and Wealthsimple not yet on board.
But it's widely available across all 3 major networks in Canada: Visa, Mastercard, and Amercian Express.
You can use Click to Pay on desktop, laptop, or mobile devices. Look for this icon when shopping online:

We can't yet confirm whether or when this feature will be available for the Simplii Financial Debit Mastercard, but this card is mentioned in the Click to Pay terms recently emailed to Simplii customers.

How Click to Pay makes online shopping safer
Click to Pay is one of several ways to shop online without repeatedly entering your credit card details. Other options include virtual card numbers, Apple Pay, and Google Wallet.
The biggest advantage is security. Each of these options reduces how often your actual card information is exposed during checkout.
CIBC Click to Pay uses anit-fraud detection and monitors all your transactions in real time. Digital wallets and virtual card numbers can help keep your real card number out of the merchant's hands.
TD offers financial protection through virtual card numbers.
That matters because every website where you enter or save your card details creates another place that information could potentially be compromised. Using a more secure payment method can reduce that exposure, especially when combined with basics like shopping on trusted sites, avoiding public wifi, and never sharing verification codes.
