Skip The Dishes originated in Canada, and is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They offer a food delivery service for tens of thousands of restaurants across Canada, including in many smaller cities where Uber Eats doesn’t operate.
Delivery areas
Skip The Dishes Canada operates in over 100 cities in 10 provinces in Canada, including Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary (among many, many others).
They don’t operate everywhere, of course, and their range doesn’t seem to stretch very far outside of the cities where they operate.
For example, while Skip The Dishes is available in the main part of Moncton, it wouldn’t deliver to an address on the outskirts of the city.
If you’re not sure, you’ll want to double check that your address is within range before getting too far into the ordering process.
Delivery fees
From our research, Skip The Dishes Canada delivery fees ranged from $1.99 to $5.99, with the majority being in the $2.99 to $4.49 range. There were also many instances where delivery fees would be waived for orders over a certain size.
That said, it’s hard to be sure what the maximum delivery fee may be, but these are the prices we saw while researching these services.

Skip The Dishes Canada often offers promos, coupons, and vouchers, which can be a great way to save a bit of extra money when ordering delivery from your favourite sushi place or burger joint.

Once signed up, you’ll start earning points every time you order from Skip The Dishes.

- Gold, which earns 10 points for every $1 spent.
Each point is worth 0.1 cents, and you can redeem them in the following increments at checkout when placing an order.

What’s available to order
We looked at how many restaurants in Moncton were available and open for delivery on Skip The Dishes, and were amazed to find over 100 in the list.
Toronto? It’s impossible to say for certain from the website itself, but we expect it’s in the thousands, helpfully constrained by your delivery address.
As for options, Skip The Dishes gives you a handy categories page to help narrow things down a little, which includes options like:
- chicken,
- sandwiches,
- pub food,
- tacos,
- vegetarian,
- Japanese,
- Thai,
- fusion, and
- $10 lunch, among others.
How to order
Ordering from Skip The Dishes can be done through their website, or through their app. And both of these are very well designed and simple to use.
The only trick is figuring out what to order once you get there. With so many options available, you can fall into a sort of choice paralysis.
Express Lane grocery delivery
Skip The Dishes has come out with their own grocery delivery option, available only in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. They promise rapid delivery in 25 minutes or less. Product offerings are limited, but they cover the basics, and even have some local options too.
Customer service
While we couldn’t find a customer service phone number for Skip The Dishes, they do have a chat app easily available on their website, and a comprehensive FAQ. In our experience, kip The Dishes customer support was responsive and friendly.
Mobile app
Of course, as with many modern online services, Skip The Dishes has a well-designed and easy to use mobile app that you can use to place orders, track your rewards, and contact customer service if need be.
The Skip The Dishes mobile app is available for both iOS and Android and can be found in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
Deliver with Skip
Looking for a side-gig? Maybe becoming a Skip The Dishes driver is a good option for you.
The benefits are that you get to set your own hours, and you’ll get paid weekly. The drawback is that they don’t pay an hourly wage – you’ll be working for delivery fees and tips alone. That said, you do get 100% of the tips you collect.
Also, you’re responsible for buying your own gas and car maintenance, so be sure to consider those when you’re trying to sort out how much money you can make.

Uber Eats in detail
Uber Eats is an offshoot of the Uber ridesharing service, started and headquartered in San Francisco, California.
Uber doesn’t have the same sort of Canadian focus as Skip The Dishes, so it’s available in far fewer Canadian cities and provinces. They also have a much more opaque fee structure, so you will often end up paying higher fees, and will have no idea how much money is actually going to the drivers.

Uber Eats currently only operates in 8 Canadian provinces:

- New Brunswick
- Nova Scotia
- Ontario
- Quebec
- Saskatchewan
So right off the top, Uber Eats just doesn’t have the same availability within Canada, which is a shame.

Like Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats delivery fees range from $0 (for orders over a certain amount) to $5.99, from what we saw on their website.
Promotions and gift cards
Searching the web will give you lots of possible options for saving money on Uber Eats through a variety of promo and coupon codes.
Whether these coupon codes work for you or not is uncertain…the only way to be sure is to give them a try at checkout and see if they work. In the end, however, finding a coupon that works may take more time than it’s worth, given how low most of these delivery fees tend to be.
Uber Eats vouchers
Uber Eats advertises vouchers for rides and food delivery as a way to reward customers for your business. These are clearly a promotional item, and you can learn more about Uber Eats vouchers here.
Use AIR MILES Cash for Uber Eats vouchers
You can also use AIR MILES Cash rewards to purchase Uber Eats vouchers. You can order these through your AIR MILES account at rewards.airmiles.ca. You’ll be able to redeem 190 Cash Miles to get a $20 Uber Eats voucher, and you’ll be able to use it instantly. Not bad.
Uber Eats gift cards
If you’re looking for a last-minute gift or a digital stocking-stuffer, you can send gift cards through the Uber Eats website.
Uber Eats gift cards are available in denominations of $25, $50, $100, $200, or a custom amount, but are only available for digital delivery.
One thing you can do, however, is buy an Uber Eats gift card ahead of time and schedule it for delivery some time in the future. A handy feature if you want to get all of your holiday or birthday shopping out of the way all at once.
Uber Merchant Rewards program
Uber rolled out their own rewards program in early 2019, and it ended in November 2022.
You can, however, earn rewards directly through participating restaurants and redeem them from the same merchant within 90 days.
Uber One monthly subscription
The Uber One is a subscription that costs $9.99 per month. You can sign up for it through their website or the Uber Eats app.
If you subscribe, you’ll get $0 delivery fees and off eligible Uber Eats restaurant orders over $15.

Similar to Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats is primarily about food delivery from local restaurants. They also offer alcohol, convenience, and pharmacy delivery as well.

If Uber Eats is available in your area, you can easily place an order through their website or mobile app.
You’ll have lots of options available, of course, so having some idea of what you’re looking for will be helpful. And, like Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats gives you a choice of categories to help narrow things down a bit.
Uber Eats grocery delivery
Uber Eats has the option of ordering groceries. From an address in Toronto, we had a variety of options available, including:
- Metro,
- Longos,
- Costco,
- Rexall,
- Canadian Tire, and
- PetValu, among others.
This requires associating your Uber Eats account with a Cornershop account, however, so there are a few added layers involved.
This is a nice option to have available if you need it.
Customer service
While researching this article, we were unable to find any useful contact information for Uber Eats. Unlike Skip The Dishes, they don’t appear to have a chat option available on their website, and the app was no more helpful in this regard.
This is a fairly major strike against Uber Eats, as it appears you’ll be somewhat on your own if you need help, or if there’s a problem with your order.
Mobile app
Uber Eats also has a well-designed mobile app available for both iOS and Android. We installed these on our phones in a matter of minutes, and, once signed in, were able to place Uber Eats orders with little difficulty.
Deliver with Uber Eats
Uber Eats is also an option for people looking for a side-gig to augment their income, or as a full-time job if you’re looking for work.
Uber Eats drivers receive 100% of any tips customers leave, which is nice.
It’s also a little unclear about how much Uber Eats drivers actually make per delivery, which is something to keep in mind both as a driver and as a customer.
And, like Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats leaves you entirely responsible for fuel and maintenance costs, which is a significant factor that can eat into your profits pretty quickly.

From a quick search around the web, it was very easy to find a lot of complaints about Uber Eats from customers. With no clear way of contacting someone either online or through the app to help resolve any issues with your order, this is a fairly significant strike against Uber Eats.

Uber Eats or Skip The Dishes: Which is better?
We decided to do some boots-on-the-ground research and see just how these 2 delivery services measured up in terms of overall cost to you, the customer.
To do this, we picked an address in the east end of Toronto and put together a series of 6 orders for each service, using their apps to order the same items from the same local restaurants.
For this, we eliminated tipping entirely. One surprising factor is that Uber Eats charges a service fee on top of the regular delivery fee, which didn’t work to its advantage in our head-to-head comparison.

In all but one instance, Skip The Dishes came in at a lower overall price than Uber Eats. Another clear win for Skip The Dishes.
So, what do these totals look like, side by side?
We took the total cost of these orders and added them together. The results?
- Skip The Dishes: $145.69
- Uber Eats: $160.92
All in all, for these 6 orders, you would pay $15.23 less if you ordered through Skip The Dishes, which is a savings of just under 10%.
While the difference isn’t huge in terms of actual money spent, as a percentage, you would pay around 10% less with Skip The Dishes.
Seems like a pretty clear win in our books.

However, both services could use some improved customer service options because there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of support, which is made clear by poor user reviews.
