MyMcDonald’s Rewards is the most straightforward and rewarding loyalty program in Canada. Hungry shoppers earn 100 points for every $1 spent at McDonald’s – whether at a kiosk, at the front counter, in a drive-thru, or on the mobile app – to redeem on food, drinks, and dessert.

Key Takeaways

  • MyMcDonald’s Rewards is the official rewards program of McDonald’s Canada.
  • MyMcDonald’s Rewards Points are worth up to 0.19 cents each.
  • There are 5 MyMcDonald’s Rewards categories, which cover 21 menu items and cost 2,000–14,000 points apiece.

What are MyMcDonald's Rewards?

As the official rewards program of McDonald’s Canada, you can earn and redeem MyMcDonald’s Rewards Points wherever you see a pair of golden arches.

Canadian diners earn 100 points for every $1 spent on delivery, drive-thru, in-store, kiosk, mobile, and pick-up orders at McDonald’s with very few exceptions.

The program is free to join for Canadians age 14 and up. Once you’ve collected enough points, you can redeem them on your favorite foods, drinks, and treats using the McDonald’s app.

Pros:

  • 1,300+ McDonald’s restaurants in Canada
  • 200+ menu items, with new updates every year
  • 100 MyMcDonald’s Rewards Points per $1 spent
  • 5 rewards categories
  • Points worth up to 0.19 cents each
  • Accepts American Express, Mastercard, and Visa credit cards
  • Bonuses and promotional offers
  • Free membership

Cons:

  • Points worth as little as 0.06 cents each
  • Limited earning and redemption options
  • No official credit card
  • No points for bag, cup, or bottle fees; delivery fees, service fees, or tips
  • Points expire in 6 months

What are MyMcDonald's Rewards Points worth?

There are 5 MyMcDonald’s Rewards categories available in the app (more on that later). For a fixed cost, you can redeem your points for your choice of 4–5 menu items yielding up to 0.19 cents per point (CPP):

McDonald’s menu prices vary from location to location but the results still hold true – the most valuable reward is a Large Premium Iced Coffee and you should avoid the 6,000 and 10,000-point categories.

We got our results using a calculator, UberEats, and the following formula:

Cost of reward in $ / cost of reward in points x 100 = value in cents per point (CPP)

Instead, redeem points often at the 2,000-point level and try to choose the most expensive options in each category. Large sizes are worth more than small or medium and delivery costs more than pick-up – but remember, you can’t redeem points on delivery fees!

How to earn MyMcDonald's Rewards points

MyMcDonald’s members earn 100 points for every $1 spent, regardless of how they make their orders. To start collecting points, download the McDonald’s app, log in, and click the square icon to get your membership code.

Next:

  • Order in-store by scanning your code at the front counter
  • Order in a drive-thru by providing your code when you order
  • Order at a kiosk by scanning your code before payment
  • Place a delivery or pick-up order through the McDonald’s app

McDonald’s delivery orders in Canada are fulfilled by DoorDash. Unfortunately, there’s still no way to collect points on an order through another delivery app, including DoorDash, GrubHub, and UberEats.

Keep an eye out for bonus points and rewards in the McDonald’s app by subscribing to the McDonald’s Canada eNewsletter and/or enabling push notifications.

How to redeem MyMcDonald’s Rewards Points

Once you’ve collected your first 2,000 points, head to the McDonald’s app and tap "Rewards and Offers" at the bottom of the screen.

Using the McDonald's app to see offers and redeem points

On the "My Rewards" page, you’ll see a list of all the menu items available with your current points balance, organized by reward categories. You can redeem your points in one of 2 ways:

  • Add to mobile order: Tap the reward you want, add it to your mobile order, and proceed to order for delivery or pick-up. Your chosen item will be included for free.
  • Use at restaurant: Tap the reward you want, select "Use at restaurant," and provide the code on your screen the next time you visit a McDonald’s drive-thru, front counter, or kiosk.

Supersize your rewards with restaurant credit cards

Unfortunately, McDonald’s doesn’t offer an official co-branded credit card. On the plus side, you can use your favorite rewards credit card for every purchase!

For those who prefer the simplicity of a no fee cash back credit card, the Simplii Financial Cash Back Visa Card offers an astounding 10% return on restaurant purchases (on a maximum spend of $500) for the first 4 months. After that, your cash back earnings will drop to 4% per $1 spent (on a maximum spend of $5,000 per year), but that’s still worth about 20 Big Macs.

Can you earn McDonald's rewards on merchandise purchases such as the socks offered during McHappy days?

Hey Carmen,

You generally earn rewards on food orders, and according to McDonald's customer service, McHappy Day socks don't count as an eligible purchase. If you want, you can reach out to McDonald's to double check either online or by calling 1-888-424-4622.
