Costco sells WestJet gift cards
Don’t be alarmed if you don’t see WestJet gift cards on Costco’s website. Sometimes, they’re only available in the warehouse.
Costco currently offers a $500 WestJet gift card for $449.99 (an immediate $50.01 savings). Feel free to stock up on the cards since they never expire and you can keep a balance on them.
You can use your gift card to pay for:
- New WestJet bookings
- Seat selection fees
- Taxes, fees, and surcharges
At this time, you can’t use the gift card for:
- Partner-operated flights
- Baggage fees
- Change and cancellation fees
- Seat upgrades
- Buying WestJet points
- Group bookings
- Pre-purchase menu items
- Travel insurance
- Hotel or rental cars
How to redeem your Costco WestJet gift card
It’s easy to use your WestJet gift card online, through the WestJet contact centre, or with your travel agent. Here’s what you have to do to redeem your gift card online:
- Choose a flight or trip on WestJet.com or Westjetvacations.com. Note that only WestJet or WestJet Encore flights and trips qualify.
- Enter all the passenger information.
- Select the "Gift card" option and enter the card number and PIN.
- Pay any remaining balance (if there wasn’t enough money on the gift card) with one other method of payment.
Watch for your confirmation email and save the details. Then, you’re all set!
Tip: If you’re unsure how much you have on a WestJet gift card, head to the WestJet website and enter your card details to find your current balance.
Is it worth it?
We turned to Reddit to see what WestJet travellers think of buying gift cards from Costco to save.
Everyone seemed to appreciate the immediate $50 savings, but many pointed out that you are limited to 2 forms of payment when booking your travel.
This means that if you use a gift card to pay for part of your booking, you must pay the remainder of the booking total on one other card. WestJet typically limits gift card use to one card per booking, too – so even if your booking totals less than $1,000, you probably won’t be able to combine two gift cards to pay.
FAQ
Where can I buy a WestJet gift card?
In addition to Costco and WestJet’s website, you can pick up a physical gift card at Calgary Co-Op, Dollarama, Federated Co-Op, Giant Tiger, Loblaws, Rexall, Save-On-Foods, Shoppers, and Sobeys.
Can I use more than one WestJet gift card?
WestJet is a bit unclear about this. According to their FAQ, you can contact customer service if you want to use multiple cards – but another page notes that you can only apply one gift card per booking. If you want to use two gift cards on the same booking, it’s probably best to call WestJet’s reservations line.
How long do WestJet gift cards last?
WestJet gift cards never expire.
Do WestJet gift cards count towards qualifying spend?
Although buying WestJet gift cards doesn’t count towards qualifying spend, booking qualifying flights with the gift cards does.
