Hockey, maple syrup, and being polite – does it get any more Canadian?

As a matter of fact, it does. Canadian Tire Money.

If you’re an adult and you grew up in Canada, the chances are that at some point in your life, you have had piles of this in your house.

Whether it was simply thrown in your “junk drawer”, used for play time, or piled neatly and arranged by denominations, this stuff was everywhere.

With recent announcements from the Canadian company, it seems that Canadian Tire is taking steps to try and remain in Canadian households by revamping their rewards program.

Triangle Rewards – the NEW Canadian Tire Money

On April 9th, Canadian Tire Corporation released a statement saying that they were “evolving it’s iconic loyalty program with the introduction of Triangle Rewards.”

New triangle rewards card images

The Senior Vice President of the Canadian Tire Corporation, Susan O’Brien stated:

With Triangle Rewards, we set out to create the easiest and most rewarding loyalty and credit card program in the country. We want Canadians to say ‘why wouldn’t I be a part of it?’ Our first step is giving Canadians more choices to earn and redeem their Canadian Tire Money.”

With the release of the new program expected later this spring, Canadian Tire has said that loyalty program members will be able to collect points at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark’s, Atmosphere and Gas+ locations ‒ and also be able to redeem them for more than just gas.

The Triangle Mastercard

No only is Canadian Tire rolling out a revamped rewards program, but they are also giving their credit cards a bit of a facelift as well.

New triangle mastercard information

The new sleek looking Triangle Mastercard is essentially the same as the Canadian Tire Options Mastercard, and will give cardholders a number of benefits including:

  • 4% back in Canadian Tire Money on qualifying purchases made online and in-store at Canadian Tire, Mark’s, Sport Chek, and Atmosphere.
  • $0.05 back in Canadian Tire Money on fuel at any Gas+ locations.
  • 0.8% back in Canadian Tire Money everywhere else you shop.
  • Financing on purchases over $200 at participating retailers.

Plus, this card comes with no annual fee, gives you no receipt returns and weekly personalized deals.

A New World Elite Mastercard Coming Soon

The more exciting part of the announcement from Canadian Tire is that they will be introducing a new World Elite Mastercard…with no annual fee.

Sure, Rogers recently announced that they will be releasing a no fee World Elite card of their own ‒ but still, World Elite Mastercards with no annual fee are few and far between.

The Triangle World Elite Mastercard will have all the above features, but it will also include:

  • 3% back in Canadian Tire Money on all grocery store purchases.
  • 1% back in Canadian Tire Money on all other purchases.
  • Purchase security and extended warranty protection.
  • Complimentary Roadside Assistance – a very rare perk.
  • Dedicated concierge service.

Being a World Elite card, this will most likely require an annual income anywhere from $60-$80K, and if you are currently an Options Mastercard holder and you’re a big spender, you could end up getting upgraded without even applying for it.

Coming Later This Spring

While there is no official release date for these cards yet, a RedFlagDeals user said that a Triangle customer service agent said that it could be as early as April 26th.

So, what if you are an Options Mastercard holder or My Canadian Tire Money program member? Will you will not need to “join” the Triangle program? We found the answer on the Triangle website:

No. Current My Canadian Tire Money program members and Options Mastercard or Options World Mastercard holders are already Triangle Rewards members and will be able to use their existing loyalty and credit cards. If you’d like a new Triangle loyalty or credit card, you will be able to merge your old account to a new card through triangle.com or the Triangle app when the Triangle Rewards program launches later this spring.

If you have more questions about the upcoming program, be sure to check out the site.

CanadianTire.ca – FALSE DECEPTIVE INFORMATION on the product listed – DID NOT try to RESOLVE customer complaint I found the item “Gracious Living 8-Drawer White Tower” Product #142-2057-6, listed on CanadianTire.ca on sale for 1/2 of its Regular Price: $59.99 – Sale Price is $29.99. On September 3, 2018, it showed that they have 7 in stock. That same day, knowing that they have it, I went to their store located at: 250 Silver Linden Drive Richmond Hill, ON L4B 4W7 905-731-3100 I went to aisle # 52 as mentioned on their site, and couldn’t find the items. I went to customer service and spoke to Taz, she confirmed that her system also shows they have 7 in stock. When I informed her that there is none, she paged for a sales associate to meet me in aisle# 52, who told me, “Yeah sorry, I know the system is showing we have 7, the manager is aware of this issue, he’s been looking for them and can’t find them”. I went back to Taz again, I told her what the sales associate said. I requested a rain check, but, she refused to give me one and said this is because the store shows that this item is in stock that’s why she can’t give me a rain check. I said, “Yes it shows you have stock on both your website listing and your local store system, however, you don’t have the physical item available!, therefore you should give me a rain check, I lost time, cost of gas and milage”. She said she can’t give any rain checks. I told her that I don’t agree with her decision and this is deceptive/false advertising, I came from afar all the way to the store only to find out they have none in stock. I asked for a store manager, Yonie came, and told him exactly the same thing, he said he can’t give me a rain check. They did not even offer to call other stores for me, to check which store has this in stock. I believe this is one of Canadian Tire’s way to bring customers to their store - False Deceptive Advertising. So, when customers come for something, they buy other things at the same time. I advised Taz and Yonie that I will post this story public and will also contact the head office, they said that’s fine and it’s my right to do that. CANADIAN TIRE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE! SEARCH CANADIAN TIRE REVIEWS OR CANADIAN TIRE COMPLAINTS on google to read what people say about Canadian Tire. CANADIAN TIRE PRODUCT LISTINGS ARE MISLEADING.

Yes, sadly the Canadian Tire Options Mastercard is no more. The Triangle is essentially the same card, however. Have you noticed any difference?

Only problem is that in my area, gas is at least 10 cents per liter more at Canadian Tire than Costco on most days.
