Moi Rewards is the loyalty program for Metro, Food Basics, and Jean Coutu. This limited rewards program is free to join, but is only available to customers in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.

By signing up for this program, you can earn points on your purchases and get instant store discounts when you redeem them.

This article walks you through ways to earn points, analyzes their value, and recommends the best RBC cards for those who want to maximize the Moi Rewards program.

Key Takeaways

  • The Moi Rewards program is the free loyalty program offered by Metro, Food Basics, and Jean Coutu.
  • Earn reward points for qualifying purchases at these grocers and pharmacies or earn points by shopping with a linked RBC credit or debit card.
  • Moi Rewards points can only be redeemed for in-store or online discounts.

What is the Moi Rewards program?

Moi Rewards is the loyalty rewards program offered by Metro grocery stores. Food Basics, Super C, Brunet, Première Moisson, and Jean Coutu are partners, so you can also participate in Moi if any of these is your preferred grocery store. We should note that even though Super C and Food Basics are partners, you can only redeem your points there; you won't earn reward points on your purchases since these are discount stores.

It's free to join the program, and you'll earn Moi Rewards points for your grocery purchases or for using a qualifying RBC credit card (more on that in a moment). You'll get access to contests, personalized offers, and instant reward money when you cash in your points.

Overview

Currency: Moi Rewards points

Reward categories: Discounts on in-store and online purchases

Pros:

  • Can request and link cards for family members
  • Can retroactively add points if you forget your card or smartphone
  • Almost 1,000 participating locations
  • Ability to download grocery store-specific apps
  • Free membership
  • Points don't expire if the account remains active
  • Member-exclusive pricing and promotions

Cons:

  • Points are only worth 0.8 CPP
  • Limited earning and redemption options
  • No Mastercard or American Express credit cards available
  • Inactive accounts are deactivated after 18 months

What are Moi Rewards points worth?

Unlike rewards programs that have a variety of redemption options and values, the Moi Rewards program is super straightforward. Since there's only 1 redemption opportunity, you don't have to do the math to find your best option.

Even so, here's how we determine the value of a Moi Rewards point:

Cost of reward in CAD / cost of reward in points ✖ 100 = value in cents per point (CPP)

As you can see, this fixed rewards program has a fixed rewards value that's pretty low.

Type of rewardRedemption optionValue
Store discount$4 off in-store or online for every 500 points redeemed0.8 CPP

How to earn Moi Rewards

There are 2 primary ways to earn Moi Rewards points: by making purchases at participating stores or using a linked RBC credit card or debit card.

We've also listed some one-off opportunities, such as welcome bonuses, for earning points.

Load personalized "coupons"

Every week, Moi Rewards adds new coupons to its site and app. All you have to do is log in and find coupons for items you plan on buying. Then, just tap or click the coupon to add it to your Moi Rewards account.

When you show your membership card or smartphone or pay with your linked RBC card, you'll instantly get the discount (and earn points on the purchase).

Check promotional offers

For the most part, shopping at a Moi Rewards partner is the only way to consistently earn points, but the program occasionally advertises promotional opportunities.

For instance, their March-to-April 2026 promotion is a contest. All you have to do is buy 2 private-label products and scan your Moi Rewards card at checkout. You'll be instantly entered to win 500,000 or 1 million points. The program is giving away 20 million points overall.

In addition to contests, other promotions include bonus points just for signing up or linking your account.

We're not going to lie, it's hard to earn accelerated rewards with the Moi Rewards program. However, you can link most personal RBC debit and credit cards to earn an additional 1 point for every $2 you spend.

If you don't have an RBC card yet, here are several we recommend – note that the rewards listed don't include the extra point awarded for linking the card with your Moi account:

It's not surprising that the best RBC credit card to earn you Moi Rewards is the moi RBC Visa. First off, you'll get the chance to earn up to 5,000 reward points. Loyal shoppers of Metro, Brunet, and Première Moisson (or Jean Coutu customers) will be pleased to learn they get 2 points per $1 spent.

You'll also get 2 points per $1 when you use your card to pay for dining, gas, and EV charging. All other purchases net you 1 point per $1 spent. Another great thing? The card charges no annual fee, and there are no income requirements for applicants.

If you know you want an RBC credit card, take a look at the RBC Avion Visa Infinite, the best RBC card overall. There is an annual fee, but you can earn 2 welcome bonuses that are worth up to $1,402. The card participates in the Avion Rewards program instead of Moi Rewards, but since Avion points are more valuable, it's a win-win.

You'll also enjoy 3 cents off per litre at Petro-Canada stations, and the card includes a dozen types of insurance coverage, making it great for shopping and travel. If you shop at Rexall, you can link your card and earn 50 Be Well points for every $1 spent.

For shoppers who are serious about earning cash back, we recommend the RBC Cash Back Preferred World Elite Mastercard. There is a modest annual fee, but since this card is a World Elite Mastercard and has plenty of premium perks and benefits, it more than pays for itself. You'll earn 1.5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in a year and 1% back on amounts over that. You can redeem cash back whenever you like.

Like the other RBC cards, this one gives you a 3-cent-per-litre discount on fuel from Petro-Canada, but you'll also earn 20% more Petro Points. You can also link the card to your Rexall Be Well account to earn 50 points per $1 when shopping at Rexall.

Although our first credit card pick is a no-fee card, the RBC ION Visa is our favourite no-fee option. You'll earn Avion points, which are worth up to 2.33 CPP (compared to Moi Rewards' dismal 0.8 CPP).

This card also gives you an instant fuel discount of 3 cents per litre at Petro-Canada stations. Although it's a fairly basic card, you have better redemption options: travel rewards, convert points, donate them to charity, get merchandise and gift cards, select RBC financial products, or pay with points. The choice is yours.

How to redeem Moi Rewards

The Moi Rewards program is one of the simplest loyalty programs around, especially compared to programs like PC Optimum, which offers many redemption options. You can redeem points for rewards in-store or online at checkout.

Cash

Redemption option: In-store or online discount

Most valuable option: Redeeming your points gives them a 0.8 CPP value

How to redeem:

If you have at least 500 reward points in your Moi Rewards account when you're shopping at a participating store, the cashier will ask you if you'd like to use your points. If so, every 500 points you choose to redeem will give you an instant $4 discount.

If you're shopping online with Metro or Super C, you'll see the option to use your points at checkout.

Although you can't transfer your points to family members, they don't expire as long as you keep your account active by making a purchase at least once every 18 months.

Is the Moi Rewards program worth it?

The simplicity of the program might be its biggest asset. After all, only shoppers in 3 provinces can sign up, and the number of participating retailers is limited, especially if you're in New Brunswick.

If you're on the fence about joining the program, the math might not be enough to convince you. Points are only worth 0.8 cents per point, which means you'd need to spend $1,500 if you live in Ontario in order to get $4 off. Seems kind of stingy, doesn't it?

Users who link their RBC card will earn points a bit faster, but you have to decide whether it's worth tying yourself to RBC and a Moi Rewards-participating store. Most users on Reddit didn't seem to think the program was worth the effort:

Reddit Users Discuss The Moi Rewards Program

As you can see, readers were disappointed with the low point value and the fact that the program sells your personal data.

FAQ

How do Moi Rewards work?

Once you sign up for a free account, scan your smartphone or Moi Rewards card at a participating retailer when you make a purchase. You'll earn 1 point per $1 spent in Quebec or 1 point per $3 spent in Ontario. You can cash in 125 points for a $1 store discount.

How much are 500 Moi points worth?

Since every 125 points equals $1 in store credit, when you redeem 500 Moi Rewards points, you'll get $4 off your in-store or online purchase. Although you don't have to redeem all of your points at once, there is a minimum spending requirement of 500 points.

Which stores use Moi Rewards?

At this time, Metro, Jean Coutu, Brunet, and Première Moisson all participate in the Moi Rewards program. To earn Moi Rewards points outside of these stores, make purchases with the moi RBC Visa. You can redeem points at Super C and Food Basics, but you won't earn flat rewards.

How do I get a Moi Rewards card?

If you sign up in-store, you can get a physical Moi Rewards card or request that one be mailed to you. If you sign up online, you'll be able to view a digital card on your smartphone, or you can request a physical card in the app.

Is the Moi Rewards app any good?

It depends on which version you use. The Moi Rewards app has three grocery store-specific versions, and the Jean Coutu app stands out as the clear winner — it's highly rated on Google Play and the App Store, while the My Metro apps earn only average marks.
