Last chance Amex offers ending soon: 10 points per dollar welcome bonus

The American Express Platinum® Card and the American Express® Gold Rewards Card both offer 10 points for every $1 spent on eligible travel purchases in the first 6 months of Cardmembership (up to 20,000 points) until May 11.

Here’s a closer look at the 2 cards.

American Express Platinum

When you hear the word “Platinum,” the first things that come to mind are luxury benefits and a showstopping credit card. And this is thanks to the timeless reputation of the American Express Platinum Card.

With this card, you’ll earn:

  • 2 points per $1 spent on restaurants and travel
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases

The points bonus, especially the expiring welcome bonus, are excellent ways to get rewarded on your purchases. They’re also super-flexible and can earn you up to 2 cents per point if you take the most advantage of the redemption structure.

You also get the premium Amex perks like the $200 in travel credit, airport lounge access, 11 types of insurance, and a whole host of other fantastic travel benefits.

10x points on Air Canada – Amex offers ending soon

The American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card offers 10x the points on eligible Air Canada, Air Canada Vacations, hotels, and car rental purchases for the first 6 months of Cardmembership (up to a combined maximum of 30,000 Aeroplan points).

The sister card, the American Express® Aeroplan®* Card, offers the same bonus, but 5x the points instead of 10x (and a maximum of 15,000 Aeroplan points).

Here’s what other benefits come with the 2 cards if you were thinking of sniping the deals before they end on May 11th.

American Express Aeroplan Reserve

If you love travelling and getting those sweet Aeroplan points, the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card was probably already on your radar.

This card offers:

  • 3 points per $1 spent on Air Canada
  • 2 points per $1 spent on dining and food delivery purchases in Canada
  • 1.25 points per $1 spent on all other purchases

If you were looking into getting the most out of your Aeroplan points, there are many ways to redeem them, but the value of points you get back on flights is far and away the best.

This card also comes with 11 types of travel and purchase insurance, as well as top-of-the-line Air Canada benefits. These include:

  • your first checked bag, as well as the first for up to 8 others on the same reservation, are free
  • priority check-in and boarding
  • the chance to get an annual companion pass

You’ll save a ton of money, especially considering you’ll get preferred pricing. Your points will go miles further with this perk, and the free checked bags are also a big bonus as well. And if you want to be treated like a real VIP, you’ll be getting priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling. It’s much better than being treated like cattle on some other airline.

The only real issue? The high annual fee of $599.

American Express Aeroplan Card

If you want a card with a more palatable annual fee, you can look into the comparable American Express Aeroplan Card.

This card has a similar welcome bonus to the Reserve edition: 5X the points on eligible Air Canada, Air Canada Vacations, hotels, and car rental purchases for the first 6 months of Cardmembership, up to a combined maximum of 15,000 Aeroplan points.

It’s also a very good credit card for travel, and considering the annual fee is much lower ($120), it can be considered a better option for some people.

With this card, you get:

  • 2 points per $1 spent on Air Canada
  • 1.5 points per $1 spent on restaurants
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases

You also get the same Air Canada benefits that we mentioned for the Reserve card, though a downside is you get a lower number of insurance categories – 8 instead of 11.
