Transferring Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors
The standard rate when you transfer Amex points to Hilton is 1:1 – 1 Amex point becomes 1 Hilton point.
Until the end of October, you'll get 1.5 Hilton points instead.
This isn't a bonus that reliably comes like the Marriott transfer bonus of last month. So if redeeming for a free night at a Hilton appeals to you, consider this bonus free points towards your next stay.
Keep in mind:
- You need to transfer Amex points to Hilton Honors in increments of 1,000
- It takes around 5 days for your points to land in your Hilton Honours account

How it compares to Amex's Marriott transfer bonus
So here's the obvious question we're going to answer: Which is better, this transfer bonus or the Marriott offer? If you want free hotel nights, you have two excellent offers to choose from.
On the surface, this seems better – it's a bigger bonus. The Marriott bonus is only 30%. But it's actually lower value.
Amex points transfer at a high rate to Marriott Bonvoy. The standard transfer is 5 Amex points become 6 Marriott points. Combined with the 30% bonus (which gets applied after the transfer), 1 point actually becomes 1.56 Marriott points. And as an added bonus, you only have to transfer in increments of 100 points (with a minimum transfer of 1,000 points).
Then there's the value of the points themselves. We value Marriott points much higher than Hilton Honors.
- Marriott Bonvoy – 0.97 cents per point
- Hilton Honors – 0.5 cents per point
Generally speaking, Marriott points are much more valuable. Of course, it's an average, there are going to be times when you will get more value with Hilton Honors.
These transfer bonuses only come a few times a year. When it's time to move points over, unless you have specific Hilton travel in mind, your best bet for value is with Marriott.
