It's here – the (typically) bi-annual event where you get bonus points when you transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Marriott. Until the end of September 2025, you'll get an additional 30% in Marriott points when you transfer at least 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
If you took us up on our strategy to earn 267,000 Marriott points in a little over a year, this promotion is a key part in reaching that goal.

Amex Membership Rewards Marriott transfer bonus
When you transfer over 1,000 Amex points to Marriott, you normally get 1,200 Marriott Bonvoy points. With this bonus, you’ll get another 30% on top of that, giving you 1,560 Marriott points instead.
This bonus typically happens twice per year – once in the spring and once in the fall.
There's no real catch here. It's an excellent offer, and one of the best ways to use your Membership Rewards points.
While Marriott points typically transfer over instantly (and in no more than 48 hours), the bonus points won't appear until up to 8 weeks after the promotion has run. However, you may see your points sooner.
First-hand experience: I got all of them right away when I transferred mine.
The only potential inconvenience is that you have to transfer Amex points in increments of 100.
Transferring your Amex points to Marriott
New to transferring your points? Here's how to do it.
Important: Once you transfer your Amex points to any other program, you cannot transfer them back.
First, log in into your Amex account. If you have multiple cards, select your Membership Rewards card.
You'll see a section for your Membership Rewards – click the button "View and Redeem Points".
On the next screen, click on the "Use Points" menu and select "Transfer Points". If you have multiple Amex accounts, you may need to click on your Membership Rewards card at the top again to see it.
Scroll down until you see the Marriott Bonvoy section, then click "Transfer My Points".
At this point, if you have not linked your Marriott account, you'll be prompted to do so. If you don't have a Marriott account, go over to Marriott's site and create one.
Enter your Marriott details to confirm your account. Note that your Marriott and Amex accounts have to be under the same name.
A few minutes later, you'll be able to transfer your points. Simply type in how many points you want to transfer, and the info required from your card. If you're not sure how many you have, it's shown at the top of the page.
You'll be asked to confirm your transfer. Keep in mind that you won’t see your bonus promo points at this stage, only the amount of points you intend to transfer.
My points were transferred over instantly, and with the transfer bonus too.
Where I stand on earning 267,000 Marriott points
For our loyal readers, here's where I stand on getting those 267,000 points.
To date, this is what I earned from each card that was part of the deal.
- American Express Gold Rewards Card – 36,130 Amex points
- Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card – 87,343 Marriott points
As we just saw, 36,100 of those Amex points just became 56,316 Bonvoy points.
It's a total of 143,659 points. I'm a little over halfway there. I'll most likely do this transfer again before the month is out as I'll have somewhere around 6,500 points I'll be able to move at that point.
