Depending on the card, one part of the sign-up bonus may have been an Air Canada Buddy Pass – a one time use companion voucher for travel within North America. All you have to pay for the 2nd ticket are the taxes and fees.
And if you’ve already earned it (or are planning on earning one), there’s a new option for you to use it.

Convert your Air Canada Buddy Pass into Aeroplan points
If you don’t think you’ll be able to use it before it expires, you can convert it into 30,000 Aeroplan points.
To convert your Buddy Pass, you’ll have to call the Aeroplan call centre and tell them you want to convert it. It’s a no questions asked conversion, and an extra 30,000 points will be yours to use whenever you like in the future.
