Changes to MBNA credit cards are coming on September 25, 2025.

There’s nothing major, with most changes centred around interest rates. And contrary to what you're thinking, while some of them are going up, some are going down.

You can also expect minor changes to cash advances, balance transfers, and the terms of a few insurance coverages.

Interest rate and fee changes

The biggest change is the interest rates. In short:

  • Purchase interest rates are going up.
  • Cash advance rates are going down.

And if you live in Quebec, you'll see higher interest rates (MBNA cards have different interest rates for residents of Quebec).

There are no interest rate changes to MBNA"s low interest cards – the MBNA True Line Mastercard and the MBNA True Line Gold Mastercard.

MBNA cardholders outside of Quebec can instead expect changes to the fees for cash advances and balance transfers. (If you live in Quebec, you don't pay these fees.)

For all MBNA cards, you currently pay the greater of 1% or $7.50. On a promotional offer, you pay 3% or $7.50.

Moving forward, cash advances and balance transfers will still have a 1% fee, but the minimum is decreasing to $3.50.

For promotional offers, the rate is going up to 5%, with a minimum charge of $3.50.

Insurance updates

MBNA is making some small changes to the terms for a few insurance coverages your card may have.

For example, MBNA is updating the language for the MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard’s common carrier, price protection, and mobile device insurance.

However, there are no changes to any of the coverages that are included, only the phrasing of the terms.

You can review the new terms in coverage guides for all MBNA cards.
