Changes are coming to Aeroplan credit cards from American Express, TD, and CIBC.

Starting January 12, 2027, cardholders will get a new set of travel-focused benefits, including 15% off eligible Air Canada reward flights, Air Canada travel credits, fourth-night and fourth-rental-day benefits, expanded lounge access, and increased priority airport security.

The exact perks vary by card tier and issuer, with premium cards getting the biggest airport benefits.

So if you have a American Express Aeroplan Card, American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card, TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card, or CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card, or are considering getting one, keep reading.

All Aeroplan cardholders get better redemption perks

One of the biggest changes applies broadly across Aeroplan credit cards.

Primary cardholders will save 15% on the Aeroplan points required for the base fare of eligible Air Canada flight rewards. The discount becomes an ongoing card benefit on January 12.

It's essentially a replacement for the old preferred pricing for reward flights, which was very hit or miss. This benefit essentially raises the value of all your Aeroplan points. We currently value an Aeroplan point at 1.6 cents each

Say you needed 50,000 points to redeem for a flight, you would need 7,500 fewer points just for having an Aeroplan card. If the same flight would save you $800, instead of each point being worth 1.6 cents they're now worth 1.88 cents.

Essentially instead of getting 1.6 cents per point, it would be increased to 1.88 cents.

Aeroplan cardholders will also get a fourth hotel night free and a fourth car rental day free when redeeming points for eligible 4-night stays or 4-day rentals.

That gives even entry-level Aeroplan cards more value when redeeming points, rather than just when earning them.

Entry vs. Core vs. Premium: The perks at a glance

Aeroplan cards are classified as Entry, Core, or Premium. The changes for all 3 tiers are different.

Here's a glance at the difference between the categories:

Entry Aeroplan credit card updates

Even the most basic cards of the group will get the 15% discount on reward flights, perhaps the most valuable perk of them all.

THere are the 2 credit cards that fall in this category.

Core Aeroplan card upgrades

There are 3 Canadian cards that fall into the 'Core' category. These are:

With these changes, primary cardholders receive $25 twice per year in their AC Wallet, with the credits issued on January 15 and July 15 and valid for six months.

They can be applied toward eligible paid Air Canada flights, including taxes and fees, but not flight rewards.

Premium Aeroplan card upgrades

There are three Canadian cards that fall into the 'Premium' category. These are:

Premium Aeroplan cards get up to $100 annually in AC Wallet credits, with $50 issued twice per year.

They also gain worldwide Maple Leaf Lounge and Air Canada Café access for the cardholder and one guest, plus priority security access for the cardholder and up to eight companions on the same reservation at participating airports.

That means premium cards from TD and CIBC get a major airport-experience boost.

The (American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card) goes a little further, adding Amex-specific perks including six Priority Pass lounge visits, eight visits to select Aspire Amex lounges in Canada, and a $200 annual dining credit.

New annual fees for Aeroplan credit cards

All of these new benefits won't come for free. The annual fees for most Aeroplan credit cards will increase in 2027.

CIBC has confirmed the changes to their cards, but not to their annual fees. However, expect card fees to be similar to their TD equivalents.

Here's the summary for all TD and American Express Aeroplan cards.

Aeroplan Credit CardCurrent Annual FeeNew Annual Fee
American Express Aeroplan Card$120$150
American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card & American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card$599$799
TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum Card$89$89
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card$139$159
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card$599$699
TD Aeroplan Visa Business Card$149$169

So while nearly every Aeroplan card is getting more travel value, the total package still depends on which issuer and tier you hold.
