Walmart World Mastercard review
If you do a lot of shopping at Walmart, you may be interested in getting a Walmart Mastercard. One of the best credit cards for Walmart is the Walmart Rewards World Mastercard. It offers an excellent return on your purchases, both in-store and online at Walmart.ca.
With this card, you can get up to 3% back on your purchases, all without having to pay a cent in annual fees. Let's take a look to see what else this Walmart Mastercard can offer you.
Earning Walmart Rewards with your Walmart Mastercard
With the Walmart World Mastercard, you will earn Walmart Rewards Dollars, which is common among every Walmart Mastercard on offer. Walmart Dollars can be used to help pay for the things you buy, either at the cash register or when shopping online.
Here's the rewards you'll get at a glance:
- 3% back in Walmart Rewards at Walmart
- 1% back in Walmart Rewards on all other purchases
If you find yourself shopping primarily at Walmart, having a Walmart Mastercard like this one is a fine choice for a credit card. All in all, you'll be doing better than some other no fee credit cards as you're guaranteed to earn back over 1% – some credit cards will only net you half of that as a base rate.
And another nice thing is that the conversion between a Walmart Rewards Dollar and a regular Canadian dollar is 1 to 1. You can use anything you earn from a Walmart Mastercard towards anything in-store or online, but you'll need to redeem them in $5 increments.
Other benefits of the Walmart World Mastercard
This is the best Walmart Mastercard of the 2 available, and here are some of the nice benefits you can expect when you own this card.
1. This Walmart Mastercard has no annual fee
Here's a really nice surprise that you're in for: this card has no annual fee.
There are very few World Mastercards that have no annual fee, and this is one of them. So you'll also get a few World Mastercard benefits on top of all those high earn rates.
2. Easy to earn welcome bonus
It isn't much, but you can earn up to $25 Walmart Dollars by completing these activities:
- 15 Dollars after making 1 purchase at Walmart and 1 other purchase anywhere else, and
- 10 Dollars after signing up for electronic statements.
It's an easy $25 you can add to your rewards bank. It doesn't involve making tens of thousands worth of purchases or jumping through financial hoops for 6 straight months just to get a few bonus points here or there.
Walmart Rewards World Mastercard downsides
However, that's the extent of what this card provides. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
1. High income requirements for a Walmart Mastercard
Since it's a World Mastercard, you'll need either a personal income of $50,000 or a household income of $80,000 to qualify for this card.
While that's standard among World Mastercards, it's very high for a no annual fee card.
2. Limited amounts of insurance included
Even though it's a World Mastercard, the insurance included is quite limited. You'll only be getting basic extended warranty and purchase protection.
If you were thinking more insurance was coming because it's a World Mastercard, you may be a little disappointed.

Terrible Experience with Walmart Mastercard
I had an extremely frustrating experience with the Walmart Mastercard and cannot recommend it to anyone.
The biggest issue? There’s no dedicated mobile app to make payments. Every single time I need to pay my bill, I’m forced to log in to the online platform — which is inconvenient and feels outdated.
Worse — my account gets locked constantly. Every time that happens, I have to call customer service, wait on hold, and spend at least 20 minutes just to get my account unlocked. It’s exhausting.
Today was the final straw. I had a $10 credit in my account and simply asked for a refund. The representatives couldn’t help me — they kept transferring me between departments, offering no real solution. And then, without warning or explanation, they closed my Walmart account.
Customer service was unhelpful, disorganized, and clearly not empowered to resolve basic issues.
This has been one of the worst financial experiences I’ve ever had. If you value your time, peace of mind, and decent customer support — avoid the Walmart Mastercard.
I hope Walmart and Capital One take this seriously and fix:
✅ A real payment app
✅ Fewer unnecessary account lockouts
✅ Trained, empowered customer service
✅ Basic refund processing
Until then — I’m done.
It's a scam...stay away...I paid in full my statement (even paid 50 cents more just to round it)3 days before due date and next statement they say iam owe 30 cents more for purchase interest...its insane
One of the Worst Customer Service Experiences and a Misleading Credit Card
The Walmart World Mastercard clearly states in the agreement that the Extended Warranty benefit is included free of charge. However, the company Securian silently charged a fee for one year without prior notification.
When I contacted them, they claimed it was a decision made by the Walmart Mastercard provider. But upon reaching out to Walmart Mastercard, I was told it's out of their hands and that I should speak to Securian—clearly a case of passing responsibility.
I had specifically transferred from the regular card to the World Mastercard based on the assurance of this free benefit. Due to such irresponsible and misleading practices, I have decided to cancel my card with immediate effect.
Having been a Walmart cardholder for nearly 3 years, I can confidently say that the benefits are minimal and not competitive, even when compared to paid cards or other no-annual-fee credit cards in the market.
I strongly advise others to be cautious before signing up for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard, especially during in-store promotions where it’s aggressively marketed. Don’t fall for the misleading claims.
Don't recommend it at all.
Worst customer service
Rewards will be used only at Walmart stores.
High interest rate
Inconsiderate customer service and not helpful. I would not recommend this card. Customer service lacks courtesy and are oversees representatives.
