Big gas and grocery spender? The CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite will earn you plenty of cash back on those purchases and more, all for an annual fee of $120 (which is rebated for the first year).

Here's what you need to know about this card.

CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite cash back earn rates

So just what will you earn for cash back? There are some excellent earn rates with this card:

  • 4% cash back on eligible gas, EV charging, and groceries
  • 2% cash back on eligible restaurants, transportation, and recurring bills/payments
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Not many credit cards can say they offer 4% cash back on 2 different categories. And there are also some bonus rewards on another 3 categories, while never earning less than 1% back on everything else.

Just note that you'll only earn 4% and 2% on purchases in your first $80,000 in annual spend. But those are pretty big spending caps not likely to be touched by most people.

The best part? CIBC makes it easy to get your cash back. You can request a statement credit once you've accumulated $10.

Other benefits included with the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite

What else does this card include with its $120 annual fee?

There are 4 main perks this card offers.

1. Travel and purchase insurance

You'll get 6 types of travel and purchase insurance included. Some of the highlights include emergency medical coverage, trip interruption, and mobile device coverage.

Full details can be found by heading to the Insurance Coverage tab above.

2. Visa Infinite benefits

This card falls under the Visa Infinite category, so you'll also receive the full suite of Visa Infinite benefits.

These benefits include:

  • Visa Infinite hotel collection,
  • Visa Infinite concierge, and
  • Visa Infinite dining series.

The Visa Infinite program has a ton to offer – it's good to know you'll always have these in your back pocket with this CIBC card.

3. Savings at Journie Rewards affiliated gas stations

On top of earning extra rewards on your gas, you'll all get some extra savings at Journie Rewards gas stations.

You'll save up to 10 cents per litre on all your gas when you pay with your CIBC.

Here are the partner gas stations that you'll see a savings at:

  • Ultramar,
  • Fas Gas,
  • Pioneer, and
  • Chevron.

4. Excellent welcome bonus

CIBC will reward you for getting this cash back card. In the first 4 months, you'll earn 10% cash back, up to $2,500 in spend.

That's worth up to $250. Just note this number does include what you would normally be earning anyway.

The downsides to the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite

On the other hand, here are 2 things to be aware of.

1. High income requirements

It's a Visa Infinite credit card, and that means it paired with high income requirements. You'll need either a personal income of $60,000 or a household income of $100,000 to qualify.

2. High standard interest rates

You won't be getting any breaks from interest here. The standard rate for new purchases is 21.99%. You'll have to pony up 22.99% on cash advances and balance transfers.

Comparison to the CIBC Dividend Platinum Visa

Don't meet those high income requirements? CIBC has another high-end cash back card for you to look into with the CIBC Dividend Platinum Visa Card.

Here's what it offers.

It doesn't quite offer the same level of rewards, but for not having any income requirements and paying a lower annual fee, it's still really good.

Our rule? If you meet Visa Infinite income requirements, go with the Visa Infinite card.

But if not, the Platinum version is an excellent substitute.

Horrible company. Horrible customer service. Forces you to use AI and when they can't help, prepare to wait on the phone for literally over an hour with no option for a call back!! They force you to wait or just give up (as they hope you'll just give up). Its insane a company this big can act this way.

Very good card if you shop at groceries. Very high spending limit on accelerate categories. $80K on groceries is second best out of all cards in Canada. First is the Amex gold (unlimited 4% Aeroplan earning from groceries).

Pros

Very easy to use app. Clean, intuitive, free credit reports

High category limit of $80K for 4% cash back on groceries and gas.

Cons

Low initial credit limit compared to other cards.

Very strict security - had to visit bank with IDs. Also in the first 2 months were nightmare trying to spend over $1000. They constantly lock you for fraud suspicion.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD. PAYMENTS FROM NON CIBC ACCOUNTS ARE HELD HOSTAGE FOR A WEEK AND YOUR CREDIT AMOUNT ISNT UPDATED DESPITE YOU HAVING MADE THE PAYMENT AND THE CARD HAVING RECEIVED THE FUNDS.

While the points are good, towards the top end, the bank and service sucks. Never thought I would care about service on a CC if I'm getting good cash back, but they are D- on service. Anything wrong, long waits, need a bump in credit limit, they won't do it, but then, a couple weeks later, they are offering it to you. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. Emails saying an offer is on the web site, but you check, no offer. I pay 100% of my card off every month, yet because 2 times the payment was late (I know, my bad), and that I called the moment I realized the cash was not going to get to them, I still get warning messages on my statements. Inflexible bank. De-powered staff that can't do anything. Had a technical problem that needed to be solved once, and I saw into the heart of this cold unthinking of a machine bank. Took months.

Love this card! 4% on groceries and gas is fantastic, and 2% on dining, transit, and bill payments isn't too bad either. CIBC is the best.
