How much your rewards are worth
The dollar value of your rewards depends on the specific rewards program ‒ and what you choose to redeem your points for. For CIBC Dividend Visa Card in particular, if you spend $2,000 per month, here's our estimated annual rewards earned depending on which reward you choose:
| Statement credits | $204 |
Calculating your annual rewards
$24,000 annual spending x 0.85% return on spending = $204 annual rewards
$204 annual rewards − $0.00 annual fee = $204 net annual rewards

Our review
A no fee, cash back credit card with bonus rewards on groceries, the CIBC Dividend Visa provides cash back rewards on every purchase. But like most things, it's far from perfect.
Here's a lowdown on this card, and a few alternatives to consider.
Earning cash back rewards with the CIBC Dividend Visa
So what will you earn for cash back?
You can earn up to 2% cash back on your purchases:
- 2% cash back on eligible groceries
- 1% cash back on eligible gas, EV charging, transportation, recurring bill payments, and dining
- 0.5% on all other purchases
Spend $6,000 on groceries, and that's $120 in cash back you've earned for no annual fee.
However, on your purchases outside the categories, you're only looking at 0.5% in spend.
You'll get your cash back to you every year as a statement credit in December.
Other features of the CIBC Dividend Visa
Besides cash back, what else does this credit card provide?
The only other benefits this card offers are 3 insurance coverages:
- travel accident,
- extended warranty, and
- purchase protection.
The full coverage amounts can be viewed in the insurance tab located above.
Other than that, there are no other benefits provided with this card. But since it has no annual fee, that's not really surprising. You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to credit cards.

Junk et insurance coverage, mobile device coverage is absolutely garbage. Don't count on it.
Not the best card in terms of cash back but for a first card it does the job of building credit history and allowing you to convert into other CIBC cards with more ease. Notably, the seamless integration with the CIBC app is great if you already bank with them, payments go through instantly and the integration with banking is seamless.
Not a very competitive card in terms of cash back but is a great first credit card. Good choice if you are already banking with CIBC since integration with your bank account is seamless.
Chose it twice for the 0% interest for 10months and it did the trick. Great for that but do not use it for regular purchases because the cashback is not competitive and is only on groceries it seems.. I had also some difficulties with getting the card physically but eventually got it sorted out after a trip to the local bank branch and a helpful advisor. There definitely is a disconnect between the CIBC credit card people and the banks that could be improved by more integration of services or something.
I've been using this card since forever (2012) like it is my second card after I got my first card which is Vancity visa. The cash back is bad but let me tell you the story. First what I notice is that the cash back is like 2 percent for strickly groceries. Others they say is 1 percent but the 1 percent is so scandalous and ambiguous. That it doesn't exist actually. It's basically a only grocery cash back credit card. I went to travel to my birthland. Used this card $1300 plane ticket no cashback. Used $6000 for school tuition fees, no cashback. And the latest of them all, a 2019 car purchase of 25k from a dealer. $5000 (part of my cash purchase which is 20k cash + 5k credit card) and I get nothing at all. I was so happy the dealer allowed me to use my credit card for $5000 (they only allow $3k at first) only to know the CIBC dividend card only really gives back cash back for strictly groceries. Yeah a grocery credit card cash back should be the term so we don't get confused. I even raised my credit limit from $2500 to $9500 just for the car purchase but was rather useless manuever.
