Current HSBC World Elite Mastercards may be changing products

According to a reddit thread started by user cannotthinkofusrname, the HSBC World Elite Mastercard may be transitioning to the RBC Avion Visa Infinite. Some users suggest that this might happen on March 29, 2024, though RBC has neither confirmed the card transition nor the date.

Here’s what’s different between the cards:

  • No foreign transaction fees: This is a big perk of the HSBC World Elite but would only exist on a modified version of the RBC card.
  • Annual travel enhancement credit bonus: When you make a booking of at least $200 through Avion Rewards, you'll be able to use any leftover credit – plus another $100. This will continue for one year after the transition, according to the thread.
  • Points transfer: Reddit user elorank commented that RBC might convert points using the comparative value and they would be available for use one week after migration. There will be more details to come on this topic.

It's important to note that RBC has not released specifics, so this is all speculation. We'll share the details once RBC releases them.

Re HSBC credit card migration to RBC: I booked and paid for an Oct2024 car rental using my HSBC Worl Elite credit card. If I have a rental car claim in Oct2024 will it be processed under the HSBC or RBC Car Insurance coverage? The benefits are much better under HSBC card.

Hello Maria,

RBC hasn't said anything yet, but one would assume that it would be processed under RBC since they are taking over HSBC. Once the switch happens, HSBC cards will be transitioning in some way to RBC, but what that specifically looks like for each person we don't know yet.

This RBC card is useless compared to HSBC world elite. Bummer. I'd have to cancel this card now.

They are taking away one of the most valuable reasons for seniors to have the HSBC card the 15 days Emergency Travel Insurance for over 65 and giving a measly 3 days.

A person at HSBC has used my address for their accounts. Ever since HSBC has been up for sale NO ONE at HSBC has been willing to fix it (two requests over the last few months) and now the transfer papers to zrBC have been delivered to my address and RBC will not do anything to stop it.
