Does Air Canada have Wi-Fi?
Although most of Air Canada’s fleet provides Wi-Fi, not all Air Canada flights will have Wi-Fi on board.
That said, Air Canada is in the process of expanding Wi-Fi services across its fleet. Intelsat will be adding or upgrading the Wi-Fi on 3 types of Air Canada aircraft:
- Boeing 737 MAX
- Embraer 175
- Mitsubishi CRJ-900
If having Wi-Fi on a flight is critical to you, take a few moments before you book to ensure your flight has a Wi-Fi connection.
How to check if your flight has Wi-Fi
You can use Air Canada’s online tool to check if Wi-Fi will be available on your flight up to 5 days in advance.
- Head to Air Canada's Wi-Fi page
- Enter your route or flight number
- Enter your departure date
Here’s what the results look like for a flight from Toronto to Charlottetown – one has Wi-Fi connectivity and the other doesn’t:

If the Wi-Fi availability tool isn’t working, you can also search for flights from Air Canada’s homepage:
- Enter your airports and travel dates
- Press "Search flights" to see your flight options
You’ll notice a small Wi-Fi symbol on the line between the two locations if the flight has Wi-Fi available. If it’s not provided, you’ll just see a solid black line connecting the locations.

Remember: Air Canada reserves the right to change the aircraft at any time, so the one you booked may not be the one you end up flying on and Wi-Fi availability may vary.
How much is Wi-Fi on Air Canada?
Currently, it costs $6.50 CAD to purchase an hour-long Wi-Fi pass, $21 for the duration of your flight, and $66 for a monthly plan.
That said, things change on May 1, 2025. Air Canada will start providing free Wi-Fi to Aeroplan members flying in North America. It plans to expand the free Wi-Fi to Aeroplan international flyers in 2026. Air Canada has not yet specified how much Wi-Fi will cost for non-Aeroplan members.

Intelsat (Air Canada's provider) also has one more prepaid option: a day pass for $19. There are a few benefits:
- Cheaper than Air Canada's one-way pass
- Provides Wi-Fi access for 24 hours
- Can be used for multiple flight itineraries
This is helpful if your itinerary includes flights on Air Canada and United, which also uses Intelsat, as you're paying once for multiple flights.
Pro Tip: If you’re flying Air Canada Rouge, your Premium Rouge ticket includes complimentary Wi-Fi (plus access to the comfortable Maple Leaf Lounges!). Wi-Fi is available to purchase if you fly Air Canada Rouge Economy.
Can you get free Air Canada Wi-Fi?
Right now, you can get free Air Canada Wi-Fi with a Premium Rouge ticket or if you’re an Aeroplan 75K or Super Elite member who has opted for the free Wi-Fi benefit.
In December 2024, however, the airline announced it would implement broad changes to expand its Wi-Fi offerings. Here’s what will be happening throughout 2025 and into 2026:
- Free Wi-Fi sponsored by Bell begins May 1 on North American and Sun flights (internationally in 2026)
- Connectivity upgrades for the entire fleet
- Expanded Wi-Fi offerings for flights through Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
- Free gate-to-gate Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members
Air Canada confirmed that those who are not Aeroplan members will still need to pay for Wi-Fi, but it hasn’t released detailed information about how much those Wi-Fi passes will cost.

- Follow the prompts to select a plan and pay for access
Is Air Canada Wi-Fi good?
We headed to Reddit to see what actual Air Canada travellers had to say about the company’s Wi-Fi. We found mixed reviews, with travellers generally musing that the connection is spotty and slow.
Of course, we have to remember that this is Wi-Fi at 35,000 feet – it would be unreasonable to expect the same type of stability as Wi-Fi on the ground.
Air Canada Wi-Fi vs. Porter and WestJet
Air Canada isn’t the only Canadian airline that offers in-flight Wi-Fi – Porter and WestJet do, too. Here’s how they stack up:
| Air Canada | Porter | WestJet | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Availability | Select North American and international Air Canada-operated flights | All E195-E2 aircraft (check your itinerary for flight details) | All aircraft except Dash 8-400 |
| Cost | * $6.50 and up * Free for Premium Rouge guests | * Free (no ads with a VIPorter account) | * $12.99 for 2 hours (may vary) * $21.99 for flight duration (may vary) * $14.99 per month for Boingo pass * Free on select flights starting Dec 2024 |
| Other details | * Free messaging for Aeroplan members * Day passes available directly from the provider, Intelsat | * Full HD streaming * Browsing * Messaging * Available from gate to gate * No speed throttling | * Messaging only available for lower cost * Costs may vary by flight |
If you enjoy Wi-Fi, it’s hard to beat Porter’s offering. But Porter only uses the E195-E2 for flights to select cities and doesn’t currently offer Wi-Fi on their Dash 8-400 fleet. That said, the adding 100 new Embraers to its fleet and plans to expand its destination offerings – so keep an eye out.
