New earn rates with the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card

We’ve got a brand new set of earn rates with the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card.

Before, the card offered 3 TD Rewards points per $1 spent everywhere, while earning 9 points per $1 spent at Expedia For TD.

It’s got a new category structure, earning rewards at the following rates:

  • 8 points per $1 spent on travel booked online through Expedia For TD,
  • 6 points per $1 spent on groceries and restaurants,
  • 4 points per $1 spent on recurring bill payments, and
  • 2 points per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Fancy. But how does that translate into annual rewards?

Before, you earned $396 in annual rewards based on a typical $2,000 monthly spend.

But with the new earn rates, your annual rewards will increase to $432, a modest upgrade. Basically, if you’re a big grocery and restaurant spender, you’ll be earning more for rewards than you were before.

But there’s one more bonus – a birthday bonus. Every year on your birthday, you’ll earn 10% bonus points based on what you’ve earned over the previous year, up to a maximum of 10,000 points, or an extra $50 in rewards.

If you take our annual rewards of $432, that becomes $475. A big improvement over what the card used to offer.

New benefits provided by the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card

There’s a couple of new things on top of the rewards.

The biggest item is the $100 annual travel credit. Make any booking through Expedia For TD, and you’ll save $100 as long as your purchase was more than $500. Easy savings.

The insurance coverage has also been updated, and now includes flight delay and mobile device insurance. Here are the full details.

Huge new welcome bonus

Saving the best for last – the humongous new welcome bonus.

You can earn 135,000 points as follows:

  • 20,000 points after your first purchase, and
  • 115,000 points when you spend $5,000 in the first 180 days.

Put together, those 135,000 points are worth $675 in free travel at Expedia For TD. On top of this, the first year annual fee is rebated.

It’s among the best welcome bonuses for a flexible rewards credit card.

Any downsides?

There is one downside – the annual fee.

It’s increased from $120 to $139.

But with the annual travel credit, you’re essentially getting a premium flexible rewards credit card for a $39 annual fee, which is a pretty sweet deal.
