Petro-Points Platinum is Here: A New Take on Gas Rewards in Canada

If you fill up often, Petro-Canada has a new rewards program designed with you in mind. On January 1, 2026, the company launched its Petro-Points Platinum program, calling it Canada’s first frequent fueller program.

What is Petro-Points Platinum?

Petro-Points Platinum is an upgraded tier of the existing Petro-Points program.

To qualify, you need to fuel 1,000 litres every 3 months, which is roughly the equivalent of filling up twice per week.

Once you hit that threshold, you unlock Platinum status and start earning richer rewards for the rest of that qualifying quarter. From there, you’ll need to hit the same 1,000-litre target in the next quarter to keep your status active.

What you get with Platinum status

Platinum status comes with several added perks for frequent drivers who qualify. These include:

• 50% more Petro-Points on fuel, car washes, and in-store purchases
• Monthly member-only offers and bonuses
• Up to $500 per year in total value, depending on how you use the program
• Exclusive customer support

You’ll earn 15 points per litre on fuel instead of the standard 10, and 15 points per dollar in-store instead of 10, which is a noticeable boost if Petro-Canada is already your go-to station.

Petro-Points Platinum also layers in extra value if you link partner programs. If you connect Triangle Rewards from Canadian Tire, you can earn $25 in CT Money each quarter you qualify for Platinum status (up to $100 per year) plus up to 3 cents per litre when you pay with cash or debit.

If you pay with an eligible RBC card, you’ll save 3 cents per litre and earn 20% more Avion points on fuel purchases.

How this compares to other fuel loyalty programs in Canada

Fuel loyalty programs aren’t new in Canada, but this tiered "fuel more, earn more" structure certainly is.

The closest comparison is PC Optimum, which lets you earn points at Esso and Mobil stations and redeem them across the Loblaw ecosystem.
