First up is the National Bank World Elite Mastercard, the best credit card offered by National Bank.

Here’s what you’ll earn on your purchases:

  • 5 points per $1 spent on groceries and restaurants
  • 2 points per $1 spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, recurring bills, and travel booked through À La Carte Rewards
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases

That’s a return of up to 2% on your purchases. But that’s not what makes it sweet.

It’s the $250 in annual travel reimbursements. Every year you can get reimbursed up to $250 for these expenses:

  • $100 in airport parking,
  • $100 in checked bag fees, and
  • $50 in airline seat selection.

These fees turn an annual fee of $150 into one that pays you $100.

It also offers the following:

  • 10 types of insurance, and
  • unlimited access to the National Bank lounge in Montreal-Trudeau airport.

The insurance package is very good, with the emergency medical coverage standing out.

If you don’t meet those income requirements, National Bank has 2 more options. Next is the National Bank World Mastercard (however the promo for this card is ending on May 31).

Here’s what you’ll get for rewards:

  • 1.25 points per $1 spent between $0 to $20,000 in annual purchases
  • 2 points per $1 spent between $20,001 to $30,000 in annual purchases
  • 1.25 points per $1 spent on $30,001 and more in annual purchases

It doesn’t offer the travel reimbursements, but the insurance package is identical to the World Elite card.

It’s for a lower annual fee of $115 and has income requirements of $60,000 personal or $100,000 household.

Finally, there’s the National Bank Platinum Mastercard. It has a lower annual fee of $89 and no income requirements. It offers a simple 2 points per $1 spent on groceries and restaurants, up to $1,000 spent per month (1.5 points after), 1.5 points per $1 spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, recurring bills, and travel booked through A La Carte Rewards, 1 point per $1.50 spent on all other purchases.

The insurance is pared back, but still quite good, containing the same number of types, at 10.
