What we know about World Legend Mastercard
Mastercard hasn't yet revealed many details about the World Legend Mastercard, other than the fact that it will be released in the U.S. later this year. However, the official update from Mastercard declares it to be their most prestigious consumer card tier to date.
Based on this announcement, this Mastercard tier will compete with both Visa Infinite Privilege cards and American Express Reserve and Platinum cards. And that means high annual fees, lots of rewards, top-notch insurance, and very high income requirements.
You can expect to compare World Legend Mastercard to the three most popular Visa Infinite Privilege (or VIP) cards:
| BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege Card | TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Credit Card | RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome Bonus | Up to 120,000 bonus points (terms) | Up to 85,000 bonus points (terms) | Up to 70,000 bonus points (terms) |
| Earn Rates | * 5x BMO Rewards points for every $1 spent on travel, dining, gas, groceries, and drugstores * 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases | * 2 points per $1 spent on Air Canada * 1.5 points per $1 spent on eligible gas, electric vehicle charging, groceries, travel & transit and dining * 1.25 points per $1 spent on all other purchases | * 1.25 points per $1 spent on all purchases |
| Special Benefits | * $200 lifestyle credit * 25% bonus points when an authorized user is added * Visa Airport Companion membership with 6 free passes | * VIP level benefits with Air Canada * Unlimited Maple Leaf lounge access * Visa Airport Companion membership with 6 free passes | * Visa Airport Companion membership with 6 free passes |
| Insurance Included | 12 types | 12 types | 12 types |
| Annual Fee | $599 | $599 | $399 |
| Income Requirements | $150,000 personal $200,000 household | $150,000 personal $200,000 household | $150,000 personal $200,000 household |
All of these cards have annual fees and high income requirements, which prevents them from being the right fit for many cardholders. And while the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege has a much lower fee than the others, the special benefits it offers are much lower.
You can explore these cards further to see what they offer.
The Mastercard Collection
Mastercard also unveiled a new set of benefits entitled "The Mastercard Collection," which is available to eligible World and World Elite Mastercard holders.
There are 3 major components to these perks: travel, dining, and entertainment.
Travel
Mastercard has not yet released all the details about the Mastercard Collection’s travel benefits. However, cardholders can expect privileges like exclusive dining spaces at select international airports.
Dining
Similar to the Visa Infinite Dining Series, the Mastercard Collection offers unique dining experiences.
The initial offers are limited to a couple of countries in Europe, with expansion to follow. A sample of experiences includes a Michelin-starred menu in Madrid and chef's table access in Verona.
Entertainment
The Mastercard Collection’s entertainment benefits are comparable to what Amex offers with Front Of The Line and Ticketmaster. You can get access to tickets, presales, and premium seating for many in-demand concerts with Live Nation.
