Chexy lets you earn rewards for payments that can't typically be made using credit cards, like rent, bills, and taxes. Chexy charges your credit card – racking up your points or cash back – then makes an accepted payment on your behalf.

Previously, Chexy accepted Mastercard internationally, but Canadians were limited to Visa and American Express. Not anymore.

Chexy has announced that Canadians can now link eligible Mastercard credit cards to their platform. This update gives Mastercard cardholders a new way to earn rewards.

Earn Mastercard rewards with Chexy

Many Canadians earn rewards on purchases like groceries, hotels, and travel. But so many of us are spending thousands of dollars on expenses like rent and tuition without earning any perks.

Chexy solves this issue by charging your credit card, then making an accepted form of payment on your behalf. For example, you can pay your rent to Chexy, and Chexy can e-Transfer your landlord.

Keep in mind that this service isn't free. Chexy charges lower rates than competitors, but you'll still pay a 1.75% fee, so make sure you're getting enough rewards to offset this cost.

The addition of Mastercard opens Chexy up to an even broader range of Canadians. Mastercard holders can start earning rewards on some of our largest expenses.

Use Canada's top Mastercards with Chexy

Now that Chexy accepts Mastercard, you can connect the best Mastercard credit cards in Canada to your Chexy account.

Chexy previously only allowed you to connect a single card to your account, but you can now add up to 5 credit cards to your Chexy account – or 10 if you have a business-level account. This means you can optimize which card pays which bill, maximizing your earnings.

As with all credit card rewards, the amount you'll earn on each purchase is determined using a merchant category code (MCC).

For example, utilities like electricity, gas, and water are typically MCC 4900. So, you could earn 5% back when paying a hydro bill with your MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard, which earns 5 points on select recurring bills.

Each credit card issuer and network can set its own MCCs, but they're largely standardized by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO).

Chexy continues to grow

The Mastercard partnership comes during a period of strong growth for Chexy – so strong that Chexy has reported 500% year-over-year growth in payment volume.

CEO and co-founder of Chexy, Liza Akhvledziani Carew says, "The rewards landscape is changing because consumer expectations are changing. They expect every dollar they spend to work harder."

Chexy has processed more than $1.5 billion in payments so far, helping over 200,000 Canadians earn over $35 million in rewards and cash back.

With the addition of a Chexy mobile app in April 2026 and now the ability to accept Mastercard, Chexy's Genius Rating has climbed. It now outranks Plastiq, which won the moneyGenius Best Online Payment Services in Canada award.

The popularity of services like Chexy and Plastiq speaks to Canadians' interest in optimizing rewards. "The strongest rewards programs will be the ones that deliver real, everyday value rather than encouraging additional spending," says Akhvledziani Carew. "That's exactly the opportunity Chexy is focused on: helping Canadians earn more from the payments they're already making each month."

This mindset aligns with the growing GeniusCash app and rewards program, which offers another opportunity to earn rewards on money you're already spending. GeniusCash Max pays cash back on top of your existing credit card rewards.

Maybe there's a bill you're paying right now from your debit account, earning zero rewards, that you could be earning double rewards for: credit card rewards through Chexy, then bonus cash back through GeniusCash Max.
