Our review
Looking for the best Aeroplan-branded credit card in Canada? You've found it in the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card. It offers the right combination of rewards and Air Canada perks with a fee that won't break the bank. In fact, with an annual fee of $139 (and $75 per additional authorized user), it's the top Aeroplan credit card for fee-conscious Aeroplan members.
Here's what it offers and how it compares to other TD Aeroplan credit cards.
Earning Aeroplan rewards with the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card
Earning 1 Aeroplan point per dollar spent on a premium credit card is to be expected, but the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card has a few bonus spending categories that are definitely a nice extra.
That's right, you'll be able to earn 1.5 Aeroplan points for every dollar spent on:
- Gas
- Electric vehicle charging
- Groceries
- Air Canada purchases
Considering we value an Aeroplan point at 1.6 cents each (when redeemed for flights), you'll be getting a 2.4% return on all of the above purchases and a 1.6% return on all of your other spending – which is really quite impressive.
And if you spend $3,000 per month, you can earn about 41,850 Aeroplan points per year. You'll be able to use those points to fly almost anywhere in the world with Air Canada and Star Alliance.
Using your Aeroplan points
There's only 1 good use for your Aeroplan points: free flights. This is Aeroplan, after all, so why collect Aeroplan points if you won't be flying?
The value of Aeroplan points for a flight can vary depending on load factors, competition, flight prices, and other variables that Air Canada won't discuss. There's no set value for a point based on where you fly, but you can book any available seat.
Flights involving partner airlines are different – there are set schedules as to how much a flight can cost, but availability is limited. You can see what a flight might cost by checking out the Air Canada flight charts.
Based on our research, we’ve found an average point value of 1.6 cents each when you redeem Aeroplan points for flights. That turns those 41,850 points into a dollar value of $670.
Of course, there are more ways you can use Aeroplan points. Here's a summary of your options and what each point is worth.
TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card pros
This card offers plenty more than just rewards. Here are 6 things this card will do for you.
1. Air Canada benefits
Any Aeroplan card lets you redeem rewards points for Air Canada flights. But why stop there? All Aeroplan-branded credit cards also include some array of benefits anytime you fly with Air Canada. And even as a mid-tier card, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card's perks are nothing to sneeze at:
- A complimentary checked bag
- Preferred pricing on reward flights
- 1,000 Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) for every $20,000 spent annually
First off, don't undervalue the free checked bag. This benefit applies not only to the cardholder but also to up to 8 others travelling on the same reservation. Facing a typical fee starting at $42 per checked bag each way, a family of 4 can save $336 round trip!
Then, you can stretch your points even further with preferred pricing. There's no rhyme or reason to any given discount, but our research shows you can save an average of 10%.
If that weren't enough, you can climb the status tiers even faster with an extra 1,000 SQC for every $20,000 you spend each year. Think of SQC like miles or points you'd earn for booking flights, except you earn them from any qualifying charges to your Aeroplan card.
Want even more benefits? Consider the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card. More on that below.
2. Plenty of insurance
Like tons of other cards, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card offers insurance – an impressive 12 types. But it stands out for another reason: While most credit cards only offer coverage if you charge the full airfare to the card, this one applies coverage even when you've booked your flight with Aeroplan points – a perk too good to be overlooked.
3. Visa Infinite benefits
Not to be forgotten are the other Visa Infinite perks, which include:
- Complimentary concierge service
- Access to the Luxury Hotel Collection
- Participation in the Visa Infinite Dining Series
Just bear in mind that this is among the group of Visa Infinite cards that don't get airport lounge access.
4. Big welcome bonus
This Visa Infinite's hefty welcome bonus is really quite the incentive. If you play your cards right, you can earn 50,000 Aeroplan points in the first year. Here's how:
- Get 10,000 Aeroplan points after making your first purchase
- Spend $3,000 in the first 90 days to receive another 15,000 points
- Spend $12,000 in the first 12 months to earn a 1-time anniversary bonus of 15,000 points.
Redeemed for flights, those points are worth up to $800.
5. NEXUS fee rebate
If you have a NEXUS card (or want to get one), this Aeroplan card can really offset the cost. Every 4 years, you'll get a rebate of $100 CAD on your NEXUS fee. While that doesn't quite cover the expense, it certainly takes care of a nice chunk.
6. Annual fee rebate
The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card charges a $139 annual fee, but you can get it waived for the first year by meeting the activation requirements.
To qualify, you need to:
- Activate your card and make your first purchase within 3 months of opening the account
- Add any additional authorized cardholders while the offer is in effect
And for anyone who wants to extend that fee waiver, there may be another way.
Customers who have the TD All-Inclusive Banking plan and the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card are eligible for an annual fee rebate every year.
As with most things, this does come with a price. The banking plan charges $30.95 per month, but you can avoid it by maintaining a minimum monthly balance of $6,000. It's certainly steep, but if you can swing it, it's an excellent opportunity to have a free chequing account and credit card.
TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card cons
Here are 2 things to keep in mind with the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card.
1. High income requirements
As a Visa Infinite card, it has the standard income requirement of $60,000 personal or $100,000 household.
2. Somewhat limited rewards
This is more a criticism of the rewards program than the card, but Aeroplan rewards are generally only good for flights with Air Canada. If you're looking for more variety, you might find better value elsewhere.
Comparison to other TD Aeroplan credit cards
TD offers a full lineup of Aeroplan credit cards, including the entry-level TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* Card and the super-premium TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card .
Here's how they compare:
| TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card | TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card | TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* Card | |

| Income requirements | $60,000 personal or $100,000 household | $150,000 personal or $200,000 household | None |
For varying annual fees, you can increase (or decrease) both the rewards you earn and the perks you get.
To decide which card is best for you, consider your income, how much of an annual fee you can tolerate, and which Air Canada perks you want.
If none of these feels right or if you prefer a card with a guaranteed return and aren't married to Aeroplan, consider the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card. It gives you a 1.5% return on all of your purchases when you redeem your points at Expedia for TD. Plus, there's a 4.5% return on all your Expedia For TD purchases.

I orderd card last year for travel (baggage) with Air Canada, bought tickets via Air Canada,
Had to pay baggage fee with Lufthansa (star alliance) because they switch flight to Lufthansa in Montreal and after trip when I claimed baggage fee to aeroplane (Air Canada) they never rembursed my money
So NEVER EVER td aeroplane
Terrible customer service. We had a death in the family and they refused to raise our credit limit $100 to allow us to purchase a flight home for the funeral. We have never been late on a payment and pay all of our cards in full every month.
This credit card wasted me enormous amounts of time. I received the card and used it for one month, then it glitched and stopped working. My account was locked from trying to use it. The only way you can unlock the account is to GO TO A TD Branch. Incredible. Unfortunately, I overpaid my first payment because their only payment process/interface is confusing. I've called them three times to have the balance mailed back to me. Each time they tell me it will take 3 weeks. Each time they don't send it. I just did it again. Next I'm filing a complaint with the FCAC.
The insurance portion of this card is useless. The administer of the insurance will make you jump through multiple hoops to try and disqualify you from claiming. Just make sure you don’t apply any credits to the ticket cost as you can never claim more than 25% or your insurance is void. The FARE they refer to is the ORIGINAL cost before any credits are applied not the actual fare. Why pay for a card that is supposed to give you insurance but has all these rules to disallow it. Check out the WestJet card with a discounted yearly companion ticket. Much better option
Hi
the worst card ever
I booked trip to Europe with Air Canada, one time on terminal they charged me two bags, 75$ each even that they said its free off charge because you own this card, so I never been refunded for those fees
