How much your rewards are worth
The dollar value of your rewards depends on the specific rewards program ‒ and what you choose to redeem your points for. For Brim Mastercard in particular, if you spend $2,000 per month, here's our estimated annual rewards earned depending on which reward you choose:
| Statement credits | $198 |
Calculating your annual rewards
$24,000 annual spending x 0.83% return on spending = $198 annual rewards
$198 annual rewards − $0.00 annual fee = $198 net annual rewards

Brim Mastercard review
Looking for a credit card that offers more than just rewards? The Brim Mastercard is the complete package when it comes to cash back cards that have no annual fee.
Here's what makes this card special.
Brim Mastercard earn rates
Brim has kept it simple when it comes to earning rewards on your purchases. You'll earn 1 point for every $2 spent on the card. No caps, categories or tiers to worry about.
Each point is worth 1 cent, giving you a straightforward return of 0.5%.
And when it comes time to redeem your rewards, you're in complete control. Redeem your points to pay for any transaction charged to the card. And you only need $1 worth of rewards (100 points) to make a redemption.
Earn bonus rewards with Brim retail partners
Brim Rewards has over 250 partners online and in-store with thousands of locations globally where you can earn even more bonus rewards. In fact, you can earn anywhere from 3% all the way up to 30% on your purchases, depending on the partner.
Those are some great returns for your online shopping. One thing to note is if you're shopping with one of these partners, you won't also be earning your regular earn rate (which is fine, you're dwarfing that rate anyway).
Other features of the Brim Mastercard
This card doesn't stop at rewards. It has plenty of other features as well.
Insurance coverage
For a no fee card, you'll get some good insurance coverage – 5 types in total. You can view the details in the insurance tab above.
Top-notch security
Brim Mastercards don't lack for security. Here's a few of the key security features available on Brim Mastercards:
- ability to not only lock your card instantly, but lock it just for online or foreign currency purchases,
- set spending limits on authorized users, and
- receive instant purchase notifications.
Access to all 5 mobile wallets
For the on-the-go person, Brim offers unparalleled access to mobile wallets.
There's 5 of them you can use your Brim Mastercard with:
- Apple Pay,
- Google Pay,
- Samsung Pay,
- Fitbit Pay, and
- Garmin Pay.
No foreign exchange fees
On top of no annual fees, this card has the holy grail of waived fees – no foreign exchange fees. It's a rare card that waives the typical 2.5% fee other cards charge, and it's an even rarer to find a no fee card that has this feature.
Cons to the Brim Mastercard
Brim cards aren't perfect – here are some things to know.
Poor reviews and customer service
Customer service can certainly be hit or miss with banks. But almost any review you'll see of Brim mentions poor customer service.
Whether it be our own readers' reviews, on apps, or in different forums, Brim doesn't have the most stellar reputation.
Alternatives to the Brim Mastercard
There are some excellent no fee credit cards out there. Here's the comparisons to a couple of Mastercards – the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card and the MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard.
| Brim Mastercard | Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card | MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome Bonus | None | 10,000 bonus points (terms) | |
| Earn Rates | * 0.5% cash back on all purchases | * 2% cash back on purchases in up to 3 Money-Back Categories * 0.5% cash back on all other purchases | * 2 points for every $1 spent on restaurants, groceries, and select recurring bills (up to $10,000 spent annually per category) * 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases |
| Insurance | 4 types | 2 types | 3 types |
| Special Features | * No foreign exchange fees * Bonus rewards at Brim retail partners | * Ability to change your 2% categories * Balance transfer offer of 1.95% for 6 months | * Several ways to redeem points for high value * 10% bonus points every year on your birthday |
When it comes to rewards, the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card and the MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard have the Brim Mastercard beat. They'll give you bonus rewards on some categories, while continuing to offer rewards elsewhere.
And they also have their own blend of special features. These are a pair of cards also worth looking into.

Horrible credit card and even worse customer service. I wish I could give zero reviews. They removed the whole point of having this card which was the no fx fees and the 2% cashback on Amazon. Moreover, they do not even have a useful phone line, as anything useful must be done by email, which they never respond to. Avoid no matter what.
They continue to advertise the discount off Indigo, yet that was discontinued years ago.
Brim introduced a forex fee of 1.5%, negating any reason to own this card. You should really update this website creditcardgenius, this card is no longer no forex fee.
pro: they support Garmin Pay.
Overall, the company is attempting to make money as a platform for credit card companies and its really shifted its focus away from the credit card users. Stay away.
I wanted a no annual fee and no fx transaction fee for a nice cross border shopping card and this fit the bill. I've moved to wealthsimple's prepaid mastercard now for the same reason. The rewards nerf and introduction of a fx fee this summer meant that there is not much reason to keep it around. Rewards system was simple, partners were ok (but very Toronto centric) and I never had any issues with the card. Customer service was very quick and easy the one time I needed it.
My experience with Brim has been frustrating. Their customer service is outdated—I had to dispute a hotel charge and was told to send documentation by snail mail or FAX, which feels like a blast from the past. Their benefits have also deteriorated with recent fee changes. Overall, the service is poor and the rewards aren’t worth the hassle. Avoid this card if you value modern, efficient customer support and good benefits.
My card got stolen while travelling in Florida, compagny declare me guilty saying pin was used.... never shared with ANYBODY... $ 4500 of transactions , 3 iphones at Apple store. Stay away, stick to the major bank, this company is horrible
