Get WestJet Elite status as an Air Canada or Porter Elite member
Until April 30, 2023, WestJet is offering Elite Status match. If you have Elite status with either Air Canada or Porter, WestJet will give you their equivalent status.
Here are the levels that qualify from these programs, as well as what WestJet will offer.

How do you get it? It’s simple. First, you need a WestJet rewards account. If you don’t have one, sign up for that first.
Then head to this WestJet page, enter in your WestJet Rewards info, select your current Elite status, and submit proof of your status, showing that it’s valid until at least December 31, 2023. WestJet will subsequently award you with their Elite status within 10 business days.
You only get a short window where you get to keep your new WestJet Elite status – until June 30, 2023. However, WestJet will make it easy to keep it for the rest of the year – they’ve lowered what you need to spend to get their various statuses.

What counts as qualifying spend? There are 2 things that qualify:
- all WestJet base airfares, and
- 20% of the base package price of a WestJet vacation package.
You can also get a boost by using the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard (more on that in a bit).
What WestJet Elite status offers
Curious about the benefits of having WestJet Elite status? Here’s a summary for all 3 tiers.

A few of these benefits also extend if you’re flying with Delta.

The amount of time you’ll be able to take advantage of this status is limited. But even if you have no plans to fly with WestJet, it doesn’t take much effort to do this.
I’ve done it in the past as an Air Canada 50K member, and never ended up flying with WestJet while I had their status. At the end of the day, I got a fancy package and some fancy luggage tags for a few minutes of work.
We can put this promotion under the umbrella of “it never hurts to take part in it.”
Improve your WestJet Elite status with the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard
There is another way you can improve your WestJet Elite status – it’s with the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard.
One perk of the card is Status Lift. For every $15,000 spent on the card between January 1st and December 31st of every year, you’ll earn $500 qualifying dollars. You can earn a maximum of $1,500 qualifying dollars.
It’s not enough to get Silver Elite status on its own, you’ll still need to earn another $1,500 in qualifying spend by flying with WestJet. But it gets you closer to the goal.
Of course, there’s more to this card than the status lift. First, the rewards you can earn:
- 2 WestJet points per $1 spent on WestJet or WestJet Vacations purchases
- 1.5 WestJet point per $1 spent on all other everyday purchases
It also offers free checked bags. You’ll get the first checked bag free for yourself and up to 8 others travelling in the same reservation.
But the biggest benefit of all is the annual companion voucher. You get this every year you have the card. Book a flight for yourself on WestJet, and you’ll be able to bring someone else along for the ride just by paying the taxes and fees, plus this set cost:
- $119 for flights within Canada or to the Continental U.S., and
- $399 for the rest of the world.
This alone can pay for the $119 annual fee.
If you so choose, you can exchange your companion voucher for 4 WestJet lounge vouchers to select airport lounges in Canada, Europe, and Jamaica. You can see the lounges here.
All told, it’s an excellent credit card for anyone who flies on occasion with WestJet.
Will you take up WestJet’s status match?
If you have status with Porter or Air Canada, even if you have no plans to fly with WestJet, it doesn’t hurt to get WestJet’s status too.
WIll you take up WestJet on their offer? Or, if you’re looking to improve your WestJet status, will you get the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard?
