The Rogers World Elite Mastercard has just announced a big upgrade if you're already a Rogers customer of some kind: you can now earn up to 3% cash back on all your purchases. This is similar to the Rogers Red Mastercard, except that this card includes some travel insurance.
It’s also getting a new name – the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard. Here are the details on the changes, which will take effect on April 9, 2024.

Details on the changes to the Rogers World Elite Mastercard
The impending changes largely align with what the Rogers Red Mastercard offers right now.
- If you have a service from Rogers, Shaw, or Fido (excluding prepaid phone plans) and you link your accounts, you'll earn 2% cash back everywhere you shop. Rogers will try to do this automatically but you may have to call them if you already hold this card.
- If you charge your Rogers bill to your card and use your cash back to pay for that bill, you'll get 50% bonus cash back – which essentially means you'll be earning 3% cash back everywhere.
- If you have a Rogers Wireless plan, you'll receive 5 free Roam Like Home days. Like the Rogers Red Mastercard, you won’t get these if your cell phone plan is with Fido or Shaw.
One thing that isn't on the Rogers site is the $15,000 annual spend requirement to maintain eligibility. But Reddit user atoothlessfairy posted what appears to be an email from Rogers stating this requirement will be removed.
Nothing else is changing about this card – the insurance and $0 annual fee remain.
If you're not a Rogers customer, nothing will change for you. You'll still earn 1.5% back everywhere and 3% back on USD purchases.
Comparison to the Rogers Red Mastercard
These changes raise a good question: what is the difference between this updated card and the Rogers Red Mastercard? There are 2 differences if you have a Rogers service.
- Minimum income requirements: To get a World Elite card, you’ll need $80,000 personal or $150,000 household income. This can be a barrier to entry for some.
- Insurance: World Elite Mastercards include basic travel insurance, broken down in the following table.
Rogers Red World Elite® Mastercard®
| Extended Warranty | 1 year |
| Purchase Protection | 90 days |
| Emergency Medical Term | 10 days |
| Emergency Medical over 65 | 3 days |
| Trip Cancellation | $1,000 |
| Trip Interruption | $1,000 |
| Rental Car Theft & Damage | Yes |
Please review your insurance certificate for details, exclusions and limitations of your coverage.
Many other cards provide much better insurance than the World Elite – so this will come down to what you already carry. I probably won't bother upgrading to the World Elite version.
If you don't have a Rogers service, the World Elite card is still a better choice as you receive more rewards on your purchases. This card earns 1.5% on all purchases and 3% back on USD purchases, while the Rogers Red Mastercard only gets 1% back everywhere and 2% on USD purchases.
