Time is running out to transfer them over to PC Optimum.

You have until April 30, 2022 to make the switch. After that, your Esso Extra points are gone forever.

Here’s how to make the switch and what PC Optimum points can be used for at Esso stations.

Transferring your Esso Extra points to PC Optimum

First, how do you get your points from Esso Extra to PC Optimum?

The first thing you’ll need to do is create a PC Optimum account if you don’t have one – you can do that here.

Once that’s done, there are 2 ways you can transfer your points.

First, you can simply head into any Esso station and get your points converted to your PC Optimum account.

The other way is to go to the Esso Extra site and log in to your account. Once you log in, you should see this screen to transfer your points:

On the next page, you’ll be asked to confirm, and then you’ll be asked to sign in to your PC account, or create one if you haven’t yet.

Once you’ve signed in, your points will instantly appear in your PC Optimum account.

And as seen above, 1 Esso Extra point will become 6 PC Optimum points.

What you can use your PC Optimum points for at Esso

When redeeming your PC points at a Loblaws store, it’s simple to use them. At checkout, simply tell the cashier you want to use them towards your purchase. You can only redeem them in 10,000 point increments, which is a savings of $10 (or a value of 0.1 cents per point).

But what about at Esso? You have 2 choices – redeem them for fuel or car washes. You can only do 1 redemption per day at Esso stations.

Let’s start with fuel. You can redeem 4,000 points and save 10 cents per litre, up to a maximum of 40 litres.

So if you get the full 40 litres, you will save $4 on fuel. Essentially the same value as redeeming them in any Loblaws store. However, fill up less than that and you’re losing value.

What about car washes?

This all depends on how much a car wash costs at your local Esso. But 10,000 points will cover any car wash you want. At my local Esso, the most expensive car wash is around $14, which at a value of 0.14 cents per point is the best possible redemption you can get with the PC Optimum program.

Earning PC Optimum points at Esso

This part hasn’t changed, but in case you’re new to earning PC Optimum at Esso and most Mobil stations, here’s what you’ll earn for points:

On fuel, you’ll earn 10 points for every litre.

On eligible convenience store purchases and on car washes, you’ll earn 10 points per $1 spent on your purchase.

The Esso Extra program is now in the history books. And while the PC Optimum options at Esso are much less than you could have gotten before, there’s still high value to be found, especially with the car washes.
