KOHO is a unique player in the Canadian financial landscape.

KOHO’s claims to fame are their prepaid cards, which are among the best in Canada. But, a major change has just happened to them you’ll want to be aware of, whether you own one of their prepaid cards or not.

KOHO’s prepaid cards are switching networks from Visa to Mastercard.

Read on to find out more about how KOHO’s network switch could potentially impact you.

KOHO prepaid cards switching networks to Mastercard

This is quite the change for KOHO prepaid cards. They’ve left the Visa network for Mastercard.

There’s a couple of things to note about this. The first is if you’re new to KOHO, you’ll be getting a Mastercard.

For existing members, you get to choose if you want to keep your Visa or get a Mastercard. If you haven’t heard from them yet, don’t fret. You should get something from them asking if you want to switch to Mastercard or keep a Visa.

And while it’s a big change, it won’t mean too much except for this – you’ll be able to use KOHO cards at Costco.

But otherwise, nothing is changing. Everything you know and love about KOHO prepaid cards is staying the same.

Your thoughts

It may seem like a big change, but KOHO switching from Visa to Mastercard isn’t much of a change for its cardholders unless you’re a Costco shopper.

What do you think about KOHO’s network change?

Ok so I'm having a discrepancy with my social assistance program and with KOHO, for my June of this years bank statement, there is no direct deposit as there is every month, for my cheque. It just simply is not on my statement. With KOHO swtiching from Visa to Mastercard, would it affect my direct deposit?

Hey Tylene,

Please note that KOHO switched all their cards to the Mastercard network in May of 2022, so it's not a recent change. If you want, you can reach out to the social assistance program directly to make sure they have your correct direct deposit information.

Who do you call if you have had your card locked due to unknown reasons and the koho chat app support team isn’t able to do anything about it? I’ve tried calling the number on the back of my card to no avail as no one ever answers and only hangs up after it’s automated recording. I’ve called peoples trust company only to be told that since kohos switch from visa to Mastercard that they no longer deal with kohos clients who now made the switch to Mastercard. I’m at a serious standstill and have been locked out of my bank account for close to a month now without any access to funds as they all go into this account. Please help!! Who do I contact that I haven’t tried as of yet!?

Hey Laurie, KOHO switched all their cards to the Mastercard network in May of 2022, and both KOHO Easy Mastercard and KOHO Premium Prepaid Mastercard are prepaid cards. So if you have a KOHO card, it is most likely a prepaid card on the Mastercard network, which means you can use it anywhere Mastercard is accepted. You can read more about it in our article KOHO Prepaid Mastercard Review: Regular Vs. Premium – Everything You Need To Know. If you have any questions about your account or card in particular, you can check your KOHO app or contact KOHO directly.
