The changes to both American Express Platinum cards are now live. While the annual fees got increased on both, they also now offer more in terms of benefits, especially in the annual credits department.
We're not here to rehash those details – you can see what has changed for both Platinum cards here.
But Amex has substantially increased the welcome offers for both the personal and business Platinum cards. And for that little bit of extra good news, there is no end date to these offers at this time. Here's what they are.
A point to note: The spending requirements for both are very high – among the highest you'll see with credit card welcome offers.

New welcome bonus for the American Express Platinum Card
We'll start with the personal card – the Amex Platinum.
The previous welcome bonus was 80,000 points. But it's now been increased to 100,000 points. Here's how you'll earn them:
- 70,000 points after spending $10,000 in the first 3 months, and
 - 30,000 points after making a purchase between months 14 to 17.

A lucrative bonus, but that's also a lot to spend in 3 months. But if you do get the full bonus, here's what it's worth for the varying travel redemptions with American Express Membership Rewards.
| Redemption | Value Of 1 Point | Welcome Bonus Value |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Points To Aeroplan | 2 cents | $2,000 |
| Fixed Points Travel Program | 1.75 cents | $1,750 |
| Transfer Points To Marriott Bonvoy | 1.16 cents | $1,160 |
| Redeem Towards Any Purchase | 1 cent | $1,000 |
A lot of value here, more than offsetting the new $799 annual fee for 1 year.
On top of that, until November 8, 2023, you can earn bonus points when you add up to 2 authorized users. What you get depends on the type of card you add to your account.
You'll get 10,000 bonus points if you add an additional Platinum card (annual cost of $250) and the user spends $2,500 in the first 3 months, and 3,000 points when you add a free Gold Rewards card and they spend $1,500 in the first 3 months.
American Express Business Platinum card welcome offer
The business version also has a welcome bonus, and it's even better than the personal card offer.
The Business Platinum Card was offering 90,000 points, but it's been increased to 120,000 points:
- 80,000 points after spending $15,000 in the first 3 months, and
 - 40,000 points after making a purchase between months 14 to 17.

Like the personal offer, you'll need to spend a lot to get the full bonus.
This card also earns Membership Rewards, and here what they can turn into:
| Redemption | Value Of 1 Point | Welcome Bonus Value |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Points To Aeroplan | 2 cents | $2,400 |
| Fixed Points Travel Program | 1.75 cents | $2,100 |
| Transfer Points To Marriott Bonvoy | 1.16 cents | $1,392 |
| Redeem Towards Any Purchase | 1 cent | $1,200 |
The new annual fee for this card is $799, and depending on what you use your bonus for, you've got at least 1 year's worth of annual fee paid for. There is no offer for adding additional cards.
