New Aeroplan Transfer Partner: World of Hyatt

Aeroplan has a new hotel partnership – World of Hyatt.

It was a bit surprising (at least to this writer) that you couldn't already transfer Hyatt points to Aeroplan. Being able to transfer points to popular airlines is a staple of many hotel loyalty programs.

But what's interesting about this new partnership is that you can transfer Aeroplan points over to Hyatt as well – though only if you're an Aeroplan Elite member.

Aeroplan transfers are usually a one-way street. Aeroplan doesn't typically allow you to transfer your points to another program.

Aeroplan and World of Hyatt new partnership

As stated earlier, transferring hotel reward points to Aeroplan is a common option – and one that's introduced with this partnership.

With World of Hyatt, every 2 points you transfer becomes 1 Aeroplan point.

We can add Hyatt to the long list of hotel programs that offer Aeroplan transfers. Here's a full breakdown, along with the transfer ratio and the minimum number of hotel points you need to transfer.

What are Hyatt points worth? Our estimation is that they're worth between 1.5 to 2 cents per point.

At worst, they're worth at least what 1 Aeroplan point is worth. And you'll need 2 of these Hyatt points to make 1 Aeroplan point. That means you're turning 3 cents of value into no more than 2.

It's really not worth it to transfer points – unless you have Hyatt points lying around that you'll never use.

This is largely true of transferring any hotel points to Aeroplan – you'll usually get better value out of the hotel programs themselves rather than moving your points over to Aeroplan.

Convert Aeroplan points to World of Hyatt

While transferring points into Aeroplan is nothing new, transferring them out is. Perhaps this is the start of a new trend?

This part of the partnership is only available to Aeroplan Elite members, but you can transfer Aeroplan points at a 2:1 ratio to Hyatt.

Again, it's not really worth it. You're taking 3 cents of value with Aeroplan and turning it into no more than 2 cents.

The only other hotel program that allows this type of Aeroplan point transfer is Marriott Bonvoy. Aeroplan Elite members can turn their Aeroplan points into Marriott Bonvoy points at a 1:1 ratio.

Benefits for Aeroplan credit cardholders

Have a core or premium Aeroplan credit card? A few extra benefits await you. These perks aren't available for entry cards.

Core and premium cardholders earn bonus points anytime you stay at Hyatt hotels, which are on top of your card's regular earn rate.

How many points you earn depends on the level of your Aeroplan credit card.

• Aeroplan core credit cards: 1 Hyatt bonus point per $1 spent
• Premium cards: 2 Hyatt bonus points per $1 spent

Premium card holders also get a few more benefits:
