Annual free night award expirations extended to January 2, 2022
If you have yet to use your free night award, you don’t have to sweat about losing it (for now).
Marriott already extended the deadline for using free night certificates that were set to expire in September.
All free night certificates that were set to expire on September 1, 2020 were automatically extended until August 1, 2021.
And they’ve now been extended again. Any free nights that were set to expire on August 1, 2021 are getting extended until January 3, 2022.
Marriott Bonvoy points expiration dates have also been changed. Members will no longer lose any points to expiration until March 31, 2022, to help ensure you don’t lose your points bank.
Marriott Bonvoy Amex details
Curious about the
First and foremost – the annual free night that was just discussed.
Every year on your card’s anniversary, you’ll receive an annual free night certificate, worth up to 35,000 points. This alone more than covers the annual fee of $120.
On your daily purchases, here’s what you’ll earn for points:
- 5 points per $1 spent at Marriott properties, and
- 2 points per $1 spent on all other purchases.
With each point worth up to 0.97 cents when redeemed for free hotel nights, it’s a return of 1.94% on everyday purchases (4.85% at Marriott).
And it also has Marriott Bonvoy perks too, on top of the free night:
- automatic Silver Elite status,
- 15 elite night credits, and
- ability to upgrade to Gold Status when you spend $30,000 per year.
And to tempt you into signing up, Amex is running a white hot offer for this card right now. You’ll earn 50,000 points after spending $1,500 in the first 3 months.
It’s a complete package for staying at a hotel – free nights, and some extra benefits on the side.
