How much your rewards are worth
The dollar value of your rewards depends on the specific rewards program ‒ and what you choose to redeem your points for. For More Rewards RBC Visa in particular, if you spend $2,000 per month, here's our estimated annual rewards earned depending on which reward you choose:
| Any travel | $356 | |
| Gift Cards | $124 | |
| Groceries | $124 |
Calculating your annual rewards
$24,000 annual spending x 1.48% return on spending = $356 annual rewards
$356 annual rewards − $0.00 annual fee = $356 net annual rewards

More Rewards RBC Visa card review
With the More Rewards RBC Visa, you'll be able to earn More Rewards points everywhere you shop – and while it's designed for those who live in Western Canada, in the right hands it holds tremendous value for all Canadians (just note it's not available in Quebec). This is one of the best no fee cards around.
Earning More Rewards points with the More Rewards RBC Visa
The points will pile up quickly when you use your More Rewards RBC Visa on all your shopping.
First, you'll earn 20,000 bonus points after your first purchase. Those are worth $86 in travel redemptions or $30 in groceries. Then, you’ll earn the following rewards:
- 5 points per $1 spent at More Rewards partner stores
- 5 points per $1 spent on gas, EV charging, and dining
- 3 points per $1 spent on all other purchases
The best rates aren't just reserved for shopping at More Rewards partner stores like Save-On-Foods and Quality Foods; you'll earn plenty of points on all your purchases. Plus, you can double-dip at More Rewards stores by scanning your membership card at the same time.
These cards are ideal for shoppers in Western Canada; outside of this region, you won’t be able to leverage the high rate at More Rewards stores.
So, what kind of returns are you looking at? Using best value (i.e., travel), you're looking at an overall return of 1.48%, which includes a modest spend at More Rewards stores. It's terrific for a no fee card.
Redeeming your More Rewards points
If you’re looking for the most value, your best redemption option for More Rewards is travel – points are worth 0.43 cents. More Rewards has a special Expedia portal and you can redeem your points towards any travel purchase you can find. If you don’t have enough points, you can do a partial redemption and pay for the rest in cash.
If you want to reduce your grocery bill, you can also redeem More Rewards for dollars off your purchase at More Rewards stores like Save-On-Foods. Every 10,000 points saves you $15 off your bill, which gives you a point value of 0.15 cents each.
Other ways to use your points include:
- Gift cards
- Merchandise
- Donations
4 benefits of the More Rewards RBC Visa
There's more to this card than just the rewards.
1. No annual fee
Despite all the rewards you'll earn, this card has no annual fee. If you're a frequent shopper at More Rewards stores, it’s almost a no brainer. There are also no income requirements for you to meet.
2. Visa Infinite upgrade
If you meet Visa Infinite income requirements of $60,000 personal or $100,000 household, you'll be able to upgrade to the Visa Infinite version. This premium card also has no fee and increases the points you can earn to these rates:
- 8 points per $1 spent at More Rewards partner stores
- 8 points per $1 spent on gas, EV charging, and dining
- 4 points per $1 spent on all other purchases
3. Standard Petro-Canada RBC benefits
As this card is issued by RBC, you’ll find those usual Petro-Canada benefits here: save 3 cents per litre on fuel while earning 20% bonus Petro-Points. These bonuses are in addition to the card's regular rewards rate. The Petro-Canada bonus combined with the high gas earn rate makes this an excellent credit card for fuelling up.
Just note this card is not eligible for the typical RBC Rexall bonus.
4. Mobile device insurance included
Many cards are including mobile device insurance these days but it’s still a relatively rare coverage among no fee cards. The More Rewards RBC Visa includes $1,000 in mobile device coverage.
2 cons of the More Rewards RBC Visa
Here are 2 things we don't love about the More Rewards RBC Visa.
1. Primarily for residents of Western Canada
Considering that More Rewards stores are only located in Western Canada – with large concentrations in Alberta and BC – the card is most valuable for residents of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Yukon.
That's not to say it doesn't have value for others; the high earn rates on all purchases can make it a worthwhile card for the right person. Note that the card is not available to residents of Quebec.
2. Best rewards limited to travel
The best value for this card is redeeming points for travel. If you redeem your More Rewards points for groceries, you're cutting your reward value by roughly a third. If groceries are your preferred redemption option, you’ll want to check out our list of the best grocery credit cards.
Comparison to the More Rewards RBC Visa Infinite
There are 2 levels to this card, the premium version being a Visa Infinite with no annual fee. You’ll need to provide your income during the application process, and those who meet the required income of $60,000 personal or $100,000 household will be given the option to upgrade to the Visa Infinite card.
Since both cards have no annual fee, you might as well accept the upgrade. The biggest difference between the cards is the rewards.
