It's finally here (well, almost). One of the biggest issues with Air Miles may finally be getting solved. As a pilot project, select Air Miles members (a creditcardGenius Team member was one of them) will be able to switch Dream Miles to Cash Miles and vice versa.
There may not have been a more derided thing in rewards than Air Miles forcing members to choose one or the other without ever being able to switch. But with this, BMO has made their first big splash since acquiring Air Miles. Here's how this works.

Getting invited to switch Dream to Cash Miles
Those who were accepted into the pilot program for switching the types of miles they already earned have gotten an email from Air Miles that looks like this:
If you haven't gotten it, you won't be able to do this at this time (and as you can see, sharing this email with others won't let them switch miles either).
Switching your miles type
So how do you go about switching your Dream Miles to Cash Miles (or vice versa)?
Well, after signing in, if you look in the quick links section of your Air Miles dashboard, you'll see a link to transfer your miles.
Click on "Transfer Balance" to start the process. From there, you'll be able to select a transfer type.
Click on the type of transfer you want, along with the number of miles you want to move.
Once done, you'll get a screen that says your transfer is complete.
And that's it!
Fingers crossed that this extends to everyone in the near future. If you have unused Dream Miles you want to turn to cash, or have a pile of Cash Miles and want to use them for travel, hopefully you'll finally be able to convert them.
And it goes without saying, but hopefully this is the first step in completely eliminating the need to choose Dream or Cash Miles in the first place.
Your thoughts on the new pilot project by Air Miles
There's really no downside to what BMO has done here with Air Miles. It's one step towards allowing users the convenience of not having to decide ahead of time what kind of miles they want to earn.
Any thoughts on the latest with Air Miles?
