Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard review
The first World Legend Mastercard in Canada, the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard, is packed full of features that a Rogers customer will love. There are increased rewards and all kinds of instant savings, plus this card charges no foreign transaction fees – not to mention it comes with some premium perks to offset its high annual fee.
But to get the best of what this card offers, you need to be a Rogers customer. If not, it may be difficult to justify the $495 annual fee.
Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard rewards
Like all other Rogers credit cards, the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard offers cash back on all purchases.
How much you'll earn depends on whether or not you have a Rogers service.
- Earn 2% cash back on all eligible non-U.S. dollar purchases if you have 1 qualifying service with Rogers, Fido, Comwave, or Shaw
- Earn 1.5% cash back on eligible non-U.S. dollar purchases
What qualifies as a Rogers service? It's basically any post-paid plan from Rogers, Fido, or Shaw – things like prepaid cell phones won't count.
If you do have an eligible Rogers service, you can essentially get double the cash back with this card. Pay your bill with your Rogers card, and you'll earn 3% cash back when you redeem your rewards towards paying your bill.
Once you've earned $10 cash back, you can redeem it any time, towards any purchase.
Pros to the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard
As you would expect from a World Legend Mastercard, this card comes with plenty of benefits.
1. No foreign exchange fees
All Rogers cards offer bonus rewards on USD purchases. But the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard waives the typical 2.5% conversion fee on ALL foreign currency purchases.
This makes it part of a select group of Canadian credit cards that don't charge foreign exchange fees.
2. 10 Roam Like Home Days
Rogers Wireless customers get 10 free Roam Like Home days, an increase over the 5 offered by other Rogers cards. With this perk, your Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard can save you up to $18 per day when you're travelling outside of Canada.
3. Rogers entertainment credit
This card comes with a $200 Rogers entertainment credit. You can use your credit towards the following Rogers services:
- Rogers, Shaw, and Comwave cable TV packages
- Rogers Xfinity TV bundles, AppTV, StreamSave and streaming subscriptions
- Sportsnet+, Discovery+, and Citytv+ subscriptions
4. Airport lounge access
The Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard gives you airport lounge access. You'll get 6 free passes to any Plaza Premium lounge in the world.
It also comes with a Mastercard Travel Pass membership. However, with this membership, you'll have to pay $32 USD per visit.
5. Top-notch insurance
This card includes a top-notch insurance package. It includes 11 types of insurance, which can be reviewed in the insurance section above.
The robust package even includes emergency medical insurance for cardholders over the age of 65, which isn't always available.
Cons to the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard
There are a couple of things to keep in mind with this credit card.
1. Similar rewards to no annual fee Rogers Mastercards
While this card does offer terrific rewards, they aren't different from other Rogers credit cards, even if you're a Rogers customer.
Rogers customers get the same bonus rewards across all their Mastercards. And if you aren't a customer, then the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard still offers the same 1.5% cash back as the no annual fee options.
2. High annual fee
This shouldn't be a surprise, but a top-tier credit card like this comes with a high annual fee. In this case, you'll pay $495 per year.
3. High income requirements
You'll have to meet high income requirements to get this card – either $150,000 personal or $200,000 household.

Mastercard products continue to get weaker and weaker compared to Visa. First, we Canadians lost the HSBC World Elite MC, now the Rogers World Elite is getting downgraded in benefits to promote the new Rogers World Legend. If I didn't shop at Costco I would seriously consider leaving the entire Mastercard ecosystem.
This card's benefits are weak for $500, the free World Elite card is just as good. $200 entertainment credit is weak, as it only applies to a limited set of categories. Top end Rogers plans has world coverage making "roam like home" obsolete. Not sure who their target audience is if they are going after the "200K income earners", do they really care about 5 roam like home days? They are clearly not matching up the expensive card with their own client needs. Then let's talk about the plaza passes. So many cards offer this perk it's not anything to brag about anymore. The 200K income earners are also likely flying business, they have free lounge passes anyway. This whole card is dumb.
