Accuracy is important to us so this article has gone through a thorough 3-stage review process and fact-checked by our team.

PC Financial’s premium credit card offering is the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard, which earns PC Optimum points that you can redeem for statement credits, store discounts, free car washes, or fuel at Esso stations.

Unlike PC Financial’s other cards, the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard does charge

Since this card does charge an annual fee, we’ll help you compare it to the other PC Financial Mastercard options, all of which are no-fee credit cards.

Earning PC Optimum points

It’s free to join the PC Optimum rewards program and start earning points, but you’ll earn them faster by using one of PC Financial’s four Mastercards.

Here’s what you can earn by shopping with your PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard:

  • Up to 70 points per litre at Esso and Mobil stations (see how this breaks down below)
  • Up to 50 points per $1 at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores
  • 40 points per $1 at Loblaw banner stores
  • 10 points per $1 spent everywhere else

Keep in mind that these rates include what you’d earn with any PC Optimum membership. That means, the true pharmacy and gas earn rates for the credit card alone are:

  • 10 points per $1 + 30 points per litre at Esso and Mobil stations
  • 35 points per $1 at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores

Earning PC Optimum points on gas

PC Optimum ensures PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard cardholders earn at least 50 points per litre total when gassing up at partnered stations by topping up points in the unlikely scenario of gas falling under $1/litre. Here’s how your 50 points break down:

  • 10 points per litre through your PC Optimum membership (available without the card)
  • 30 points per litre by paying with your PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard
  • 10 points per $1 (topped up to at least 10 points per litre)

PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard cardholders are also eligible for 20 bonus points per litre when purchasing at least 150 litres of fuel at Esso and Mobil stations in a calendar month. This brings you to the maximum advertised earn rate of 70 points per litre for all purchases within the month you hit the 150-litre threshold.

Redeeming PC Optimum points

It’s easy to redeem your PC Optimum points, especially if you shop at a Loblaws-branded store like No Frills, Real Atlantic Superstore, Real Canadian Superstore, or Maxi. Once you have at least 10,000 PC Optimum points, just redeem them at the cash register for $10 off your purchase.

You can redeem points for the exact same value at Esso and Mobil gas stations.

Alternatively, you can log into your PC Optimum account online or in the app to put the points towards your PC Mastercard balance. However, with this option, 10,000 points are only worth $7.

To get the maximum value out of your points, you can also redeem them for a free car wash at Esso. Although the cost of a car wash varies by location, you can use your points for any car wash, including premium options, for free. Since the price of a car wash ranges from $10 to $30, this works out to more savings than free groceries or gas. However, you’ll likely want to use those redemption options too – they still offer solid value, and there are only so many times you’ll want to wash your car.

Benefits of the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard

In addition to the rewards you’ll earn with this Mastercard, you’ll also enjoy some unique benefits.

PC Express Pass

A major benefit of this card is its free access to the PC Express Pass. PC Express gets you unlimited access to free grocery pickup and delivery on orders of $30 or more. The cost of a yearly subscription to PC Express is $99 plus tax, which goes a long way to offset the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard’s annual fee of $120.

World Elite Mastercard benefits

This card includes 24/7 concierge service through Mastercard as part of its Global Services benefits, which also includes emergency assistance in any language. Just call the customer service number if you need help reporting a lost or stolen card or finding a nearby ATM.

Includes optional insurance

You’ll get the same travel and purchase protection insurance as the PC World Elite Mastercard, but you’ll also get the option to add Payment Support Plan insurance. This coverage can protect your credit score if you face sudden financial hardship.

Best earn rates of any PC Financial credit card

This card earns 50 points per $1 spent at Shoppers, compared to just 25 points per $1 earned with the basic no-fee Mastercard. It also gives you the highest earning potential when you fuel up at Esso.

Downsides to the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard

The rewards and benefits make this a great overall credit card, but there are a few things to consider.

Annual fee after the first year

The card’s $120 annual fee is waived for the first year, giving you a chance to try it out. But you will have to pay the annual fee going forward.

High income requirements

The card’s personal income requirement of $80,000 or $150,000 in household income might be too steep for many Canadians.

Limited special perks

Even though this is the premium credit card offered by PC Financial, you’re only getting slightly better earn rates for rewards, and the unique benefit is a free PC Express Pass with unlimited free grocery delivery and pickup.

Comparison to the PC Mastercard
