Our Review

Remember that old saying "You can never have too much of a good thing?"

The RBC Cash Back Mastercard proves that saying to be true by giving you unlimited cash back with no limits.

For the first $6,000 you spend, you'll earn 2% cash back on your grocery store purchases and 0.5% on everything else.

After you spend $6,000 annually, you'll earn 1% cash back on all your purchases.

Plus, this card will give you instant savings any time you get fuel at Petro-Canada – save 3 cents per litre (the discount is applied at the pump) and get a bonus 20% Petro Points as well.

This cash back card from RBC also has:

  • no annual fee,
  • insurance that protects your purchases for the first 90 days against theft, damage or loss, and also…
  • extended warranty that doubles the manufacturer's warranty up to an extra year.

The downside? The reward tiers can be confusing and there's no travel insurance included with this card.

If this isn't quite what you're looking for, the is a good alternative. It'll let you earn 2% cash back on 2 out of 10 spending categories (3 if you have a Tangerine banking account), grocery being one of them, with no limits.

And while it won't save you quite as much on gas, you can still have gas as your second high-earning spending category and get 2% cash back on purchases made at any gas station, not just Petro-Canada locations.
