A basic credit card, the HSBC Mastercard has no annual fee, and can suit you if you just need a credit card for some occasional purchases.

The card doesn't have any rewards you can earn, and the only perk it includes is extended warranty coverage.

However, outside of that there isn't anything else this card has to offer.

HSBC +Rewards Mastercard

A rare combination card that offers both rewards and low interest rates, the will give you those for a low annual fee of $25.

On your everyday purchases, you'll earn:

  • 2 points per $1 spent on restaurants and entertainment, and
  • 1 point per $1 on all other purchases.

An HSBC Rewards points is worth 0.5 cents when redeemed for travel, giving a return between 0.5% to 1%.

As for those interest rates? A low, permanent rate of 11.9% on purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers.

It also has you protected on your purchases. With this card, you'll get:

  • Extended warranty,
  • Purchase protection, and
  • Price protection.

The last one is quite rare on credit cards. If an item you've purchased comes available at a lower price within 60 days of your purchase, you can get refunded the difference.

HSBC World Elite Mastercard

A premium travel card, the offers good rewards, great perks, insurance, and no foreign exchange fees.

With this card, you'll earn 3 points per $1 spent on all purchases, which gets doubled on travel bookings.

Your HSBC Rewards points are worth the same as the HSBC +Rewards Mastercard, so you're looking at a return of 1.5% on all purchases, and 3% on travel.

A great welcome bonus is also included. You can earn 20,000 points after making your first purchase.

And while you're out travelling, when you have to make purchases in foreign currency, you won't pay any foreign transaction fees. Most credit cards charge 2.5% on top. Instead, you'll be able to keep that for yourself.
