Our Review

Just because you're a student, that doesn't mean you have to settle for a student card with no rewards. The Scotiabank Scene Visa wants to give students a chance to build their credit, while still enjoying the benefit of a earning rewards with every purchase.

Not only that, but because movies tickets are expensive and high margin, the points are actually worth more than many others. 1,000 SCENE points are worth at least $12 in free movies giving each point a 1.2 cent value as opposed to the usual 1 cent value.

With the price of movies getting higher and higher, being able to go for free is pretty appealing. The Student Scene Visa will do just that.

To start you off right, this card gives you 3,000 scene points - that's 3 free regular admission movie tickets!

You'll also get 5X the points when you use your card at Cineplex owned theatres and on That jumps you up from a 1.2% return on spending, to a 6% return on spending. If you're a regular at the movies, keeping this card just for in-theater purchases is worth it because it doesn't have an annual fee.

You can also get free additional cards for your family members and just watch the free movies and popcorn roll in.

The Scotiabank Scene Visa for students will also give you up to 20% off at AVIS Rent A Car locations worldwide.

One downside. This card does not include any type of insurance, so that is definitely something to keep in mind.

The creditcardGenius algorithm calculates an estimated dollar value for all rewards and bonuses by using a typical point value a person can realistically achieve by redeeming their rewards in a reasonably optimized way. The "Welcome Bonus" is the dollar value obtained by combining of all one-time bonuses available to new cardholders within the first year. To qualify for the full bonus you may need to make purchases, meet minimum spending requirements, or complete special actions. Terms and conditions apply.
