For a premium travel credit card that offers more than just rewards, the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite could be right up your alley.
It comes with a great blend of perks, insurance, flexible rewards, and one of the rarest features of all – no foreign exchange fees – which really makes it stand out as a great travel credit card.
First, let's start with the rewards you'll earn. It comes with a sign-up bonus of 25,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. When redeemed for travel, that's a value of $250.
For your daily spending, you'll get to earn bonus rewards on a variety of categories:
- 2 points per $1 spent on groceries, restaurants, entertainment and daily transit purchases, and
- 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
If you're a big spender, you'll really see the points roll in.
And when you spend $40,000 per year on this card, you'll get a 10,000 point bonus. For every $10,000 you spend above that, you'll get 2,000 bonus points.
Redeeming your points
So what can you use your points for? You'll be earning Scotia Rewards points, which are some of the most flexible you'll find.
The best value for your points is by redeeming for travel. You can book any travel you like, either through Scotia Rewards or with any provide. Travel redemptions will give your points a value of 1 cent each.
Other ways to use your points
Of course, as with any rewards program, there's more than just one way to use your points.
If you want to see some free movies, you can transfer your points to Cineplex SCENE. 1,000 Scotia Rewards points turn into 770 SCENE points. We value a SCENE point at 1.05 cents when redeemed for movies, making a Scotia Rewards point worth 0.81 cents. You can also transfer from SCENE to Scotia Rewards as well, where 1,000 SCENE points become 950 Scotia Rewards.
You can also redeem for merchandise, shop through Best Buy and Apple catalogues, get gift cards, or convert your points into statement credits.
Just note that all of these options won't provide the same value as when redeemed for travel.

Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Insurance
The insurance provided by this card is outstanding.
It comes with 12 different types of insurance coverages, including one that is hard to find.
While many include emergency medical coverage, most of them stop offering it when you reach the age of 65. Getting medical coverage at age 75 and older is even rarer.
Luckily, this card covers you no matter your age. You'll get 10 days of coverage if you're over 65, including anyone older than 75. The only requirement is that you have no pre-existing conditions for the previous year.

Other travel perks
So what else does this card offer? There are several noteworthy perks.
The biggest one? Not charging any foreign exchange fees. You'll save the usual 2.5% over what other cards typically charge. If you shop frequently outside of Canada, this alone will give you some good savings.
For the air traveller, this card gives you a complimentary Priority Pass membership along with 6 free passes. You'll be able to relax in style and comfort while waiting at an airport for your next flight.
There's also a complimentary Avis Preferred Plus membership and all the Visa Infinite benefits, including Visa Infinite Concierge and the Luxury Hotel Collection.
Are there any downsides to this card? The only one is on how much rewards you actually earn. Based on a typical $2,000 monthly spend, you're only looking at a return of 1.3%, lower than other premium cards.
So you have to value the other features of this card to make it worthwhile.
