Our Review

The Rogers Platinum Mastercard has been gaining some hype due to its most sought-after feature, notably 3% cash back on foreign spending.

This offsets the 2.5% foreign exchange fees that come along with your purchases made in a foreign currency, giving you a net return of 0.5% instead of 3%.

You'll also earn 1.25% cash back on all your purchases, and 2% on any Rogers services or products charged to the card. Once you have at least $20 in rewards accumulated, you can redeem your cash back at any time.

While all this is great, you'll get an underwhelming sign-up bonus of $25 after the first purchase, no perks, and no travel or purchase insurance at all.

Want to pick your own earning categories? The will let you earn 2% on two categories of your choice – three if you have a Tangerine bank account – and 0.5% cash back on everything else.

Pro tip: It makes for a great pairing with the Rogers Platinum Mastercard. Use the Tangerine Mastercard on your chosen categories and the Rogers card for everything else.

As an alternative, a card that can give you even more relief from foreign exchange fees is the . This card will waive the foreign exchange fees completely and still gives you 1% cash back on all purchases, putting you ahead of the Rogers Platinum Mastercard by 0.5%. Plus, it comes with car rental insurance, purchase protection, and complimentary roadside assistance, which the Rogers card does not.

Another alternative that'll give you the same base earn-rate but a better sign-up bonus and some great perks is the with 1.25% on all purchases and 2.5% on all spending in the first 3 months (up to $150 in total cash back earned) as a welcome bonus.
