Our Review

If you have some credit card debt hanging over your head and you are looking to take some steps in the right direction to conquer that, the MBNA Platinum Plus Mastercard is a great card to consider, especially if you can pay that debt of in 1 year.

This card gives it's users a best in market 12 months of 0% balance transfers - a great way to get a hold of your finances and save on interest charges while doing so. You aren't just limited to credit card debt either, you can actually transfer funds out to your bank account to pay off other debt.

There is a 1% fee payable on all funds transferred, but that still means you'll pay 1% for the full year on your money, instead of interest rates that could be 20% or higher on your current debt.

But don't confuse the 0% interest rate on balance transfers with current and future purchases. Purchases made with this card - or much worse cash advances - will accrue have an interest rate at a regular: 19.99% and 24.99% respectively.

And after 12 months, that 0% promo will be replaced with 21.99%.

Also, be sure that you pay your minimum balance, if you have one, on time every single month. If you fail to do that, they will remove your 0% promotional rate and start charging you the full 21.99%. If you miss a second payment, it will go up to 26.99%.

The point? Only use this card for balance transfers and pay it off in 12 months.

An added bonus is that you get 7 types of travel and purchase insurance with this card, check out the tab above.

This card doesn't allow you to earn any rewards, or enjoy any fancy perks...but if saving on interest and paying down debt are your top priorities, then this card fits the bill.
