Our Review

The Hudson’s Bay Mastercard is a store credit card with no annual fee and is issued by Capital One. If you’re a big fan of shopping at Hudson’s Bay stores, this card could be worth considering.

Earning points to use at Hudson's Bay

For every dollar spent at Hudson’s Bay stores, you'll earn:

  • 4 points (if you have a Hudson’s Bay rewards card), and
  • 2 points for charges they make anywhere else.

Plus, twice a year, your Hudson's Bay credit card will give you a 25% bonus on any charges made outside of HBC stores – giving you 2.5 points for every $1 spent in total.

These points can be used to purchase HBC gift cards to use at Hudson’s Bay stores,, and Home Outfitters locations. 2,000 points = $10 gift card.

Transfer your points to AIR MILES

If AIR MILES are more valuable to you, you can convert these rewards to AIR MILES. 40 points = 1 Mile.

But if you’re an AIR MILES Gold or Onyx member, you'll get a 15% and 25% bonus respectively, when making that conversion. (Please note: Even with that 15-25% bonus, this option will give you less value for your rewards.)

Using your card in HBC stores gives you 90 days to return your items and when you're shopping online you can get free shipping with a minimum purchase.

And all for no annual fee.

The downsides

For starters, this card doesn't come with any insurance – not even the most basic purchases insurance.

Although you'll be getting a 1.31% return on your spending with this no fee card, your points have very limited use. And unless you're an avid Hudson's Bay shopper, there are plenty of better options out there for you.

And finally, you can't apply for this card online. Instead, you need to make your way into a store to apply.

Not the card for you?

What are your thoughts?

The creditcardGenius algorithm calculates an estimated dollar value for all rewards and bonuses by using a typical point value a person can realistically achieve by redeeming their rewards in a reasonably optimized way. The "Welcome Bonus" is the dollar value obtained by combining all one-time bonuses available to new cardholders within the first year. To qualify for the full bonus you may need to make purchases, meet minimum spending requirements, or complete special actions. Terms and conditions apply.
